Just a very short background:

I used to ski quite a bit roughly 17-18 years ago. At the time I could get to 28 off, @ 34 mph and make 2-3 balls 22 off @ 36 mph. Never really liked 36 mph. For the last 17 years, I might ski one week a year behind a mediocre boat and never through the course.

Fast forward to early this summer.

I had an opportunity to get on a small private lake with a slalom course. Bought a 1991 Prostar 190 and started skiing more frequently. Still on my "vintage", 1991-ish, Obrien TRC.

I have been really struggling to make a pass. I have made one pass in maybe 10-20 attempts, and on that one I cheated the entry gate.

Yesterday while continuing to struggle, I began to think "I can't believe that it is this hard to make a pass @ 32 mph, long line!!!". Then I begin to think "This is really long line isn't it???"

Turns out I have been skiiing at 15 off from the first day I put this new boat in the water. I just grabbed the robe that was in the boat and started skiing. Turns out the previous owner had just gotten rid of the rope section below 15 off, probably because he never used it.

I thought it was funny:)

1st thing most of us do is remove the 15’ off section and use it to tie to a dock or another boat...

The last slalom rope I bought from straight line didn't even have the 1st 15ft section

Yep. Never use the 15' section. Some say it's actually easier to ski at 15 off than at full length. Let us know how that works out for you!

I tried long line once a few years ago for the heck of it. Almost impossible to not have slack in the rope at the turn. My 2 15' sections are for tieing up as well.
