My 87PS 351 indmar has Mallory UNILITE EI butit also has a coil that specifies a resistor. From my reading am I to understand that I can/should get a new coil that does not require a resistor and thne remove it from the system?

Pics of what I have now

If I do this are there any issues I might need to look for?

Although I am not familiar with that particular distributor, I think your assumptions are correct. With my electronic ignition upgrade in a mallory (hot-spark.com) I just bypassed the resistor and ran a wire straight from the existing coil. Others on this site have done the same, but different electronic ignition kits have different requirements regarding the resistor...

Go to napa and get coil #Ic64sb.. Like 20.00 This is the coil i have on my boat bypassing the resistor. It was recommended by a fellow member here. Says right on the box no external resistor needed. Its the coil that requires the resistor not the ignition. The reason for a resistor is to drop the actual voltage the coil sees to keep it running cooler.
