Thinking about picking a pair up to protect the "jewels" when slalom skiing. Just wondering if they run true to size?

They are pretty close. I'm 5'11" and 185; if I recall, the size chart had me in a Large but I always seem to be border line L/XL on most stuff so I opted for the XL. They fit fine and I think the L would have been a bit on the tight side.
