I did three deepwater long-line starts this morning. Smooth driving and a bit of coaching from my buds and I had success the first time.

I'm 50, been barefooting for 36 years, but all of it long line step off (yes a 40 hp outboard works for learning if you're not too big) Never even had a barefoot wetsuit on before today. I've done starts off the boom and tumble up short line (and the black and blue rear end to prove it!) stuff off the boom but just rarely set aside time to foot instead of ski. Today was the day. It was actually easier than I thought it would be.

It's been on the bucket list for a long time.

Congrats!!

The forecast for tomorrow morning here is 3mph winds out of the East, which is very rare and perfect for foot'n. My brother and I will be on our feet and then let the young'ns play on the wakeboard later.

Smooth...ish water is a rarity out here, hopefully no one ends up in the ER! I've only been on my feet once in the last 23 years (long line last summer) and my bro has been zero in that time. Many moons ago (80's), we learned how to foot behind a 50hp Johnson on a 15' V hull POS. 32mph was all we could get out of it.

Good for you! No need for that step-off ski anymore.....one less thing in the boat.

If you have a boat with enough power, next step is double-deepwater barefoot starts. Nothing like 2 footers behind one boat!

That rocks! Still would rather step than deep!

Congrats on the deep! I suggest wearing a shorty under your barefoot suit for more padding.

Thanks guys.

Two pair neo shorts under the BF suit so I was fine there. It seems more pure to have no ski involved in the first place. And for sure more convenient down at the far end of the lake for the return trip!

On the other hand, step off requires nothing. Ok, a drop ski - as it's kind of a trick to ease out of and shake off a double slalom boot set up (believe me I have done it).
