Hi Guys,

I have an MC Tandem disc braked trailer. Has anyone had trouble with floating trailer brake calipers rattling loudly during transit? Is there a way to quiten them down?...its a new trailer and sounds like its falling apart!

Are you sure it's the calipers? My 95 rattles a little bit (metal sound) when I go over some bumps in the road. When I put the boat in the water and I'm taking the trailer back to storage it gets a lot worse because it bounces more. My problem is the brake lines inside the trailer tubing. I had a rusted, leaking brake line and when I removed the lines they were covered by some water logged old rubber pieces. I installed new lines without the rubber and now the lines will rattle inside the tubing. Maybe this winter I will remove them and put some rubber or nylon bushings back on the lines.

Same problem with my 2005 trailer and a lot of MC trailers. I think Sodar knows a solution.

I thought it was the brake lines but none of them appear to be resting against the chassis or axles which leads me to believe its coming from the calipers...I will check with Sodar...thanks guys!

Let us know. Mine does the same on an 08 197TT.

I know mine is the spare tire carrier. I put some greece on the pin and it fixed the rattle. .

Yes i have an 05 as well with the same issues. Rattles have driven me nuts and after i read this thread finally paid attention when i applied the brakes and guess what. No more rattles. A solution would be great.

Here is the thread. It helps, but is not a 100% cure.

Thanks Sodar, i'll pull the wheels off and see what we can do.... loose pads rattling is the noise that i'm hearing as the pads appear to be floating pads....a retainer clip sounds the solution...just have to work out how and what! :!

There are two guide holes for the pads on the calipers which are oversized on the outside face of the caliper. I put a little bit of solastic in the void (oversized) portion of the hole and the rattles have ceased!! On the inside pad at the rear of the caliper there is also a little room for the pad to rattle so I put a spot of silastic to fill the gaps at this location as well. The trailer is now a pleasure to tow!
