Installing rear speakers in 2010 PS 197 TT

Hi guys,

I have a 2010 MC PS 197TT which does not have a stereo. I have purchased a Clarion CMD6 stereo and JL Audio speakers (7.7") which I wish to retrofit. I wish to install the head unit in the glove box and the speakers only in the rear rebated into the fibreglass moulded rear seat support (ie. just beneath the seat as they install in the factory). I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone could assist in answering which will assist greatly:

- As the speaker circumference will take up basically the full width of the seat support I will need to take out the kicker board on the side pockets to enable the speaker to fit in. How does the side pocket kicker board dismantle?

- I've got an eye for detail (as im told) and diligent in modifications and was contemplating doing the install myself. What is the best tool to use for cutting fibreglass? Is a fine cutting disc and hole saw most appropriate?

- If its too risky i'll have someone cut the fibreglass for me and i'll install the audio myself. Could anyone recommend a specialised trade to do this work for me?

I did the install for one of my 197's and utilized a 6" hole saw to make the cut. While your speakers measure 7.7" be sure to measure the actual width of the portion that needs to be recessed as I believe, if they are the same as the factory speakers, 6" is what you need.
I did not have to remove the side panel or anything as you can easily reach thru and pull your wires.
Good luck and remember, measure 4 times and cut once!

Thanks jkski! Yes the actual width of the recess will be 6"...when centred perfectly it will fit right on the limit! :)

Run the hole saw in reverse until you get through the gelcoat or by an abrasive hole saw(w/ out teeth) that they use for installing recess lights in plaster/drywall. It will give you a nice clean hole without chipping the gelcoat. Also, run the shop vac while you cut. It will make clean-up a lot easier.

Just wondering if the factory rear speakers installed in the rear seat supports for PS 197's are JL Audio M770 series or M650 series?....Has anyone installed M770 series at this location and had them fit perfectly?

Its all good....the M770's juuuust fit!!Its tight though!

I'd like some pics as well. Also, wondering of depth was an issue as I'm contemplating putting new 7.7s in the front to replace factory.
