Hello All! I'm new to the forum, but not to Mastercraft. Started on a 78, now I have the 98 anniversary edition.

Which leads me to my question. It has these 'stickers' (plastic) on the seats that have a classic mastercraft and skier with the 30th logo. They are starting to peel off a bit at the edges. I asked Mastercraft what I should use to re-glue them on. They claim they were heat pressed on, and didn't use glue (even though there is a lovely brown stuff that looks suspiciously like glue on the seat behind the sticker) and that I should ask the dealer. Well. The dealer is clueless (didn't buy from a dealer anyway). Even an upolstery shop didn't have any ideas.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I start getting creative?

Thanks!!

Something like this?

When you figure it out, please let me know.

Welcome aboard!

Yep! That be it. I take it the crap left by the stickers doesn't come off? Was toying with the idea of yanking them off if I knew I could clean up after em.

I like the way that looks, I wouldn't want to remove it altogether

You could try using heat transfer paper. It can be found at just about any fabric/quilt shop. It is the same stuff that is used to adhere appliques (sp?) to fabrics such a quilts, pillows & clothing. That is probably similar to what was used originally. Cut out the size & shape you need and put it between the artwork and the vinly. Make sure you DO NOT put the hot iron directly on the vinyl!! Put a towel on the vinyl first, then the iron. And do not hold it on there for more than like 15-30 seconds at a time.
I am not 100% sure this will work on plastic. But it is worth a shot. Good Luck!! :)

Wonder if there is any kind of addesive that won't damange the seat but will stand up to water and sun. Next thing would be where in the world do I start to look? The marine store in town is clueless.

Be careful when it get's real hot out (like a day at the lake and in the direct sun), the glue will start to "unglue"

The heat transfer paper will hold up to several wash & dries and ironings. As long as it has been properly adhered. So it should hold up against water and heat in a boat.

I just spent 2 weeks on vacation in 100 degree heat, the poor thing sat in the hot sun most of the day. I about had 2nd degree burns on my feet when i stepped on that chrome handle in front of the pilon. OWIE. Anyway, that is when I noticed them really starting to peel away. This should be an interesting adventure tring to find something that will hold up!

Ok. I'm at work at the moment.... I'm having a hard time adjusting to work after vacation. I'll get a picture scanned in when I get home.

You could also try calling an upholstery shop. They might have some ideas too. :)

That emblem is really cool looking. I'm amazed it's a glued-on sticker? The only thing in the boat that gets hotter than the vinyl is the chrome. Sounds like one of MC's best ideas since wrapping my brake lines in rubber.

The 'sticker' reminds me of one of those puffy stickers I used to get when I was a kid. Is plasticy. Here is the quote from the email I got from Mastercraft

"These decals were not glued. We had to buy a special heat press to put these monograms on the seats."

They didn't have any ideas how to fix em.

How well would gorilla glue hold up to heat and water do you think?

Doesn't gorrilla glue expand as it dries?

What about wetsuit/drysuit glue? It is used to glue the seams seals etc.

It is a heat transfer emblem. A large heat press is used to "permanently" adhere the emblem to the material. We have a few of the heat presses here at our factory and use them on a daily basis. When the proper emblem and base material is used the adhesion is completely permanente and cannot be removed without damaging the base material or the transfer. We have many different materials we use with heat transfers but I cannot say that we have tried it on vinyl . We strictly emboss or embroider vinyl to ensure durability. I am quite sure the heat is what is causing the logo to separate. As for reapplying I am afraid you are out of luck. Superglue would probably be your best best since most other adhesives will attack or melt the vinyl and cause more problems down the road.

What about new skins from MC??

This might be a bit far fetched, but what about having an upholstery shop stitch them on? If they stitch around the perimeter of the applique, then it should hold indefinitely (I'm starting to sound like a Thesaurus  ).

OK. I may sound like a dork for asking, but what is meant by new skins? Is that a new back for the seats??

that's it, you order new skins and MC will send you the covers that you'll have to take to an upholstery shop or install them yourself.
