View Full Version : Ignition Swithc -- do I need a "marine" one?

I've determined I need a new ignition swithc due to some recent problems I'm having (see other post here: http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=42486 )

I'd like to get this fixed quickly before my next outing this week, so my question -- can I simply install an automotive ignition switch, or is there somethign unique about a marine one? Cost isn't really an issue -- they are only about $25 at skidim.com, but I want one in my hands tomorrow.

thanks in advance for the advice!

rust in the auto switches - made of metal?
i'm getting a sierra MP41040 from amazon per a member's recommendation; but like you, wondered about the auto part

if you go that route, can you post your results?

Most auto parts store can order you a marine ignition in for you in a couple of days NAPA had one for me the next business day.

Be better to have a marine one, better corrosion protection, but an auto switch would work for the weekend....or rest of the season I'm sure.

I opted for the marine one. Surprisingly the Malibu showroom around the corner had one in stock so was able to get one pretty quickly.
