So the wife and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversay this fall and we want to visit the Keys. (never been there before)

Any advise about the following would be awesome, thanks.

-Where to stay (what Key, what resort)
-What to do and where (ski/wakeboard, waverunner tour, boat tour, parasail, snorkel, bike, etc.)
-Any other "must see" places including bars/restaurants

We will only have 4 days and we want to make the most of it. Thanks again!

Cheeca lodge.

Wife and I spent a few days at this place. We just stumbled on it while driving down there. Apparently, it burned down a year or so later but they have rebuilt it. I would assume it's still the same type of atmosphere.

We got a separate "hut" or house right on the beach. Superior Beach Bungalows. THAT was so cool. If you can get that instead of staying inside the hotel, do it! Very romantic and the service was great.

My wife still wants to go back.

On our way down in Miami, we stayed at this place as well. Again, wife loved it.

Just bring a decent amount of money for both of these places.

If you stay in the Islamorada area, check out the Islamorada Fish Co. It is right next door to the World Wide Sportsman. That is Bass Pro Shops saltwater store, worth a look. Just a little south is Robbies Marina. Check out the tarpon that hang around the dock and the Hungry Tarpon resturant. Very good breakfast.

I would say 1st that you can forget about skiing in the keys, at least serious skiing anyways. I recommend you do some scuba diving instead.

That being said, if budget is a factor, your best bet is to fly into Miami and have a rent car.

The drive between Key Largo and key West is ~100 miles and it will take you 3 hours (seriously)Ö

If you want serious skiing, hit chet raleys - http://www.pbtcenter.com/PBTC/Home.html. Only thing is, itís in boca raton and will take a long time to get there from the keys.

Also, when you research the trip, notice that itís just as expensive (or more) to vacation in the keys as it is to spend a week in the Caribbean.

I was down to the bottem at Key West a few months back. Had a great time! I stayed at Ibis bay resort that was affordably priced.

They have waverunner tours that leave right from the resort.

Snorkeling was the best deal I have ever had.... $40 out to the coral reef, all you can drink water on the way 6 miles off shore. Then 2 hours of snorkeling, on the way back all you can drink beer and margaritas.

Moped rental was cheap too $36 for an entire day, best way to see the island, vs driving around with out of state plates and looking like a total tourist...

I would suggest staying in Key West. There's a lot more to there - shopping, restaurants & entertainment. I'll get some info together for you. Marathon is nice but it's about an hour to Key West and not a lot to do there.

One thing for sure --- OBSERVE the POSTED SPEED LIMIT while in the Keys. They change from Day & Night and they will pull you over for 1 MPH over the limit!!! Especially on bridges!!!

Great thread as I just returned today from Key West. This is my 14th visit to Key West. If you do stay in Key West, get a place north of Truman Ave. Most B&B's south cater to the gay community. My favorite place is the Key West Harbor Inn. It is 2 blocks from Duval, at Sloppy Joe's, and 4 blocks from Mallory Square. Also, one of my favorite restaurants is right next door, The Conch Republic Seafood Company. Here are some links.

I agree with Tricky. Key west has a lot more things to do, and much better restaurants. There's a place on Stock Island (1 bridge before Key West) call the 'Rusty Anchor' Seafood to die for! http://www.rustyanchor.com/ If you like cuban food, then try 'El siboney'. www.elsiboneyrestaurant.com I HIGHLY recommend the Palomilla Steak!
And like he said, drive the speed limit! Especially in Deer key!
Hogs Breath saloon is a great hangout, and so is Capt. Tony's bar. Do not rent mopeds either!
I lived there for 6 months while remodeling a bank. My brother was best friends with the local orthopedic doctor and the horror stories I head about tourist and mopeds, were unbelievable!

kiteboarding in Islamorada is great; flat water as far as you can see. Check out the local kite shop 7-Sports if you want to rent gear and get a lesson. The owner (brad) is a good guy.

Are you planning on going deep sea fishing? Mel Fisher's museum is a must! Make sure to do the Duval crawl one night!!!

There's a "Topless Beach" near the cruise ship dock!

I second the hungry tarpon, great place mile marker 77.5 I think
Try to find the no name pub, best pizza in the keys.
Most of the fun I have had on my many keys trips is stumbling , no pun intended, into places. Take you time, explore the keys. great places everywhere.

I agree on the No Name Pub....best pizza ever! As I recall it is just south of Marathon?

I'll third it, though I haven't been there in years. It's pretty much a big shack on the side of the road, kind of hard to find, which adds to the appeal of the place. On Big Pine Key I think(?), between Marathon and Key West. Worth a visit if you're in the Key West/Marathon area.
