89 Tri Star 351 windsor, I pulled the fuel tank pick up out knowing it had to be plugged up, Sure enough the check valve was full of crap as was the elbow it threaded into. I have two questions,
1) should there be some sort of sock or screen on the end of the pickup ? mine is just a angle cut tube that threads into the tank.

2) Since I have a mechanical fuel pump why do I need a check valve? it would seem my pump /spin on filter/ and float bowls would hold enough fuel to start the engine. I ask this because the threads on the check valve snapped during disassembly and I will be searching for anything tomorrow that wil get me running..

By the way ethanol sucks!!!! you wouldnt belive the sheeiit I pulled out of there..

If I remember. Correctly the valve is a anti siphon valve designed to keep the fuel in the tank and not in the bilge in the case of a fuel line leak.
