I found what appears to be water in the transmission oil of my 1991 mastercraft prostar. The fluid is starting to go a milkly pink color. No leaks from the transmission itself and the dip stick appears to have a tight seal. Could this be condensation. Also how would any one suggest getting the moisture/water out so that the new oil is not contaminated. Has anyone else had a similar problem. Transmission was still operating good when water/moisture was discovered on last outing.
Thanks

deuce, welcome this is a great site for info
Hard to say on the water. Make sure your transmission dipstick is on tight and the breather valve works properly.
As for fluid, flush it out, you may have to run a few quarts thru it and then finally top off with good stuff. Check your fluid after a few hours (after the flush) if it is still milky you might need to change it one more time

Bilge had a lot of water in it lately?

No not really it obviously gets a little during a days trip, but if the transmission is sealed then it would have to be pretty deep for the water to get in, especially as there is no signs of any oil getting out.

I was wondering if there was a breather and if it was possible for water to splash over this or just if the transmission isn't breathing then maybe condensation. When I mentioned Condensation I thought this might be very unlikely. Do you know where the Transmission breather is located on the housing.

Yes both options are possible. The breather is on the top of the transmission and mine has a silver looking breather cover on it. You can't miss if if you look at the transmission. Regardless, if you have milky transmission fluid don't run the boat until you get it fixed

Sounds like the transmission cooler has a leak in it allowing lake water to mix with the transmission fluid. I would drain all of the fluid and replace the transmission cooler, run for a few minutes and drain and change fluid again. Repeat until the fluid is no longer milky.

Hey Deuce,
Suck the trans. fluid out thru the dip stick hole....
New trans coolers are about $100 from skiDIM - any easy DIY....
