I am acquiring a 2001 X10. To my surprise, contrary to my former Tigé 2100V that has three tracking fins, the X10 has none. I understand that the X10 finds its roots with the Maristar, but no fins?

How will the boat behave? Will I really experience a major difference?
Are fins becoming obsolete on wakeboard boats?

Thanks for sharing your experiences and feedbacks.

I was told by someone at a Mastercraft dealership once that tracking fins aren't really necessary on V drive boats, I think since the pull is coming from the back and not the middle?

I can say that on my Tigé, the fins did not prevent the boat from tipping inside the turn but I would feel that the turn was solid and relatively crisp.

My inlaws have a 2005 x-10 and its a super good boat. It tracks really well. With it being a V-drive and its size, it doesnt need the fins. It will turn on a dime without a slip.

My 91 Maristar 240 does not have fins & it is a direct drive and it tracks and handles well.
but then again it is a big heavy boat with a big horsepower motor.

Why would a wakeboard boat need tracking fins?

The X10 doesn't just have it's roots in the Maristar line...it is a Maristar.

The fins aren't really to help the boats turn either.

I Thought The Tracking Fins Were Only To Keep It Running Straight As An Arrow Down Slolom Courses ??

That and I would think they would also help keep the boat from being pulled around by the skier.

Tracking fins are on any MC that is flat bottom. It helps with tracking since there isn't really anything underneath that would keep the boat from sliding around. Currently the 197, 214, 214v and X-Star have fins in standard configuration and if you put the Ilmor 6.2 in any available boat then those boats get tracking fins.

On my Maristar 210 I can feel when the skiier is pulling hard. However, we're not running the course so it isn't an issue.

Didn't someone post a photo of an X25 with fins?

Yes. That X-25 had the 6.2L Ilmor. That is the only way it gets fins.
