View Full Version : Wake Surfing... What prop should I use

Went out on the lake today and ended up hitting my prop on a metal piece in the water. Going to repair the prop at a local marina but I was interested in maybe upgrading to a prop meant more for wake Surfing. I use my X-10 mostly for wake surfing but do occasionally wakeboard. Is there an all around good prop for both???

I'm running a 14.75x15.5 OJ and love it. Great dual purpose prop.

Ditto on that prop, love it! On my X-star we wakeboard with 2000# ballast, wakesurf with 1650# with no problems....MCX engine. And it's fast enough (41) for barefooting. Your boat should be a bit faster top end.

Thanks I usually run almost 2000 pounds ballast. Im going to get my prop repaired and look at getting this or something else. I heard from a local dealer to get a new prop meant for wakesurfing and just cant remember what prop he said. Just trying to find an all around prop for surfing and wakesurfing. The stock prop wont plane out with 2000 plus pounds of ballast and people in the boat. only way to plane out is to put 500 pounds in the the bow to help plane it out.

I also was looking at a 1270 ACME prop, anyone ever used that???

In my opinion, wakesurfing is not very demanding on your prop. You don't need to start as quickly or get on plane fast as wakeboarding or skiing. Pick a prop for your desired other sports and it will be fine for wakesurfing.

I have an Acme 14.5 X 16 for sale. Depending on what engine you have, and your elevation, it might fit the bill perfectly. At a minimum, it would be a terrific backup prop so that next time you aren't off the water until the prop is repaired. It is the 1593. Feel free to send me a private message, or email at: tallredrider at gmail.com

Price is negotiable.

I sold my Mastercraft in March, so have no need for it. This prop is very similar to the OJ 14.75 X 17.5 that I also ran on the X45.

I have a 2006 X Star with the 8.1 L engine but the wakesurfing wake is terrible with white wash and the rooster tail spraying in my face on goofy side. Will a different prop help this situation? I've tried using the factory ballast and adding more ballast and many different speeds with no success.
