I read the thread on the quality issues regarding the vinyl in the 2004 xstars. I'm having the same issue. I called a dealer to order new skins and they no longer can get them. A suggestion was made by another individual to get another years picture and hull number and order skins via this route (otherwise you can't get an order).
1. Does anyone know if the interior shape has changed since 2004?
2. Do you know if the quality changed in a different year?

Or go a different route all together if I'm going to run into the same issue.

I had a 1994 Four Winns originally and sold it last year and there was not a crack in the vinyl period. Wow...

If you act fast, you may still be able to get '05 skins. I just got some for mine from Bay Area Watersports. Maybe '04 and '05 use the same colors? Otherwise, I think all X-star seating in the same up to newer years (2009,2010?) But that would mean you have to change out every skin, big $$$. I just got the 4 bottom skins for the cockpit area.

dumb question.......are skin's inclusive of all the interior upolstry ? my boat has different shades of grey and only some of the material is bad. both back locker doors, front open bow bottoms only.

Does anyone know if the quality of the vinyl has changed with mastercraft? If not, I'll go to a local guy and get it done better

Original vinyl....2006-up is the better quality I believe.
My replacement skins look a little better than original.....time will tell. I'm not installing them this season.....maybe not even next season either. I just wanted to get them before they become obsolete.

Am I better off going aftermarket? It sounds like we are unsure of mastercrafts quality:(

The quality of vinyl that MC used then was as good as it comes.
The problem was in all the stitching. More needle holes the more problems. Talk to your local upholsterer about recomending better options to replace some of the stitching.

Perhaps yes. I'm probably going that route now. I've given up banging my head against the wall trying to order newer skins for my '04. '06 skins are the same, but without a '06 hull ID, no love from MC. I'm somehow reminded of the Seinfeld Soup Nazi episode: No skins for you!

I gave up on the skins, partly because they are way too expensive, and partly because the were discontinued (04 X-star).

We went to a local shop and they matched everything up almost perfect! Less money and the newest upholstery materials available! Very classy stuff.
