I noticed in wakeboard mag OJ came out with new prop. TZX5

Can't wait to hear Eric's thoughts on it.

Does anyone run this prop ? I am running 14.25x14 on x star loaded. Love it but would like to see 300-500 less RPM's when runnen 25 mph at 4200 rpm fully loaded. 3000 lbs. Maybe thats a tall order.....

Anyone running this prop yet ?

What are your thoughts on it ?

Travis Moye runs this prop and posted something on The boarding schools facebook page about 3700 rpms at 25mph with 4000lbs of ballast and 5 people.

Ill have to ask Josh about it, as he works at the boarding school with moye... maybe they will let me borrow one.

spoke with josh about the prop as they have been using it at the camp a lot. He said its great on gas but not as aggressive as the 14.5x14.25 that he gave me for my X1 with MCX.

That prop sounds interesting.....I'd like to hear some 1st hand opinions on it.
Have you tried the OJ 14.75 X 15.5 yet? I run that one now, my 14.25 X 14.5 OJ is now my spare. I run 2000# ballast, plus 5-6 people. 23 mph is 3700 rpm's IIRC.
You ride @ 25 mph? That's fast!

I'm running a 14.25x14 110 cup OJ
2500 # ballast 5-6 people or so
90 ft rope @ 25.2 about 4200 RPM

No I have not. It sounds interesting though. How about fuel, do you notice a diffrence with the 14.75x15.5 from the 14.25x14.5 ? Hole shot better.... RMP's are def. lower. MCX ?

I wouldn't mind checking it out. Figure I'd seek out someone who has tried 5 blade before I make a purchase on a new prop.

I have a perfect back up 13.7x15.5 I think I should get rid of and get something newer and bigger.

The guys I ride with run the ACME 1279 on a MCX 06 Xstar with PWT BI ballast and 2-4 people and at 23mph it is just over 3700rpms.

I don't have any hard fast numbers, but fuel economy is better with the 14.75 X 15.5. (I have the MCX) I can also get about 41 mph out of it, and cruising speed is better without having the engine scream (sometimes we have to run a few miles to find smoother water)
Holeshot only suffers a little, but again i almost never run more than 2000# of ballast. If I was constantly running 3000# of ballast plus 6+ people, I would stay with the 14.25 X 14.5 for sure.

i bought a Acme 2061 14.50x15.50 0.105 cup

X-Star LY6 Run +/- 3250 lbs and 3 people, compared to the OJ 14.75x15.5 the Acme has just a slightly better holeshot. The boat with acme runs 3550 RPM at 22 miles and has 5500 w.o.t at 44 miles.
I,ve noticed some play in the rudder at w.o.t and at wakeboards speeds on a strong starboard pull the stern of the boat breaks out a little.
.overall good, but maybe not the best for slammed X-stars.

I just received my TZ-X5 from OJ and have tested for a few runs, I run a 2006 X-Star MCX with 2400 total lbs of ballast. I replaced the stock OJ 14.25x14.5 .120 cup M/C# 2037864.

It took a while to get this prop but it was well worth the wait. I worked with Eric at OJ and was very pleased with the result OJ delivered!

The prop is very smooth my riding buddies immediately noticed that there is zero shudder in acceleration, I really didn't notice the difference until I put the XMP back on and you see quite a difference!

Acceleration noticeably increased, and totally horked my perfect pass settings, after auto calibration the CR/ CS numbers needed adjustment and it runs perfect now.

With the 4 blade I had difficulty getting on plane with a full boat and ballast. With the 5 blade there is solid acceleration and silky smooth no issues with full boat and ballast!

Top speed dropped by about 1-2mph, but I can still hit between 37-38mph with the 5 blade.

Conclusion is it is well worth the price and if you need more punch this is your prop.

Great info on the prop guys.....
Any chance you can check your RPMS,SPEED, and what your weight (ballast & people ) is during your loaded towing session.
I am very close to pulling the trigger on this prop.
Every little bit of ino helps..
Thanks

I will email you the video of my perfect pass, just sent it to Eric. I tested this AM with 2400 lbs of ballast 3700-3800 rpm at 24.5 mph. Strong pull all the way this prop is awesome!

Looks like a 5 blade that they use on yachts.

What is the diameter? It looks really big!

There aren't any specs stamped on it so I don't think Eric is ready to disclose the specs yet.

Still evaluating but initial results are a little better holeshot and holding power while waking and surfing but not great results footing. I am going to run more test tomorrow morning.
I am asking alot out of my LY6 and I am searching for the best prop to do it all without upgrading to a new boat or swapping out engines. My dealer is hoping I just give up and buy a new boat.. :)

I put one on my X45 with LY6 last week and only got a quick test in. WOW HUGE difference for me.

That being said I had the wrong prop on to begin with.. I am not sure how it compares to running something closer to what I should need like a 14.75x 14.5. I was running a 13.7 x 17.5 which is what came with the boat. When we surfed with stock locker full stock KGB and additional 1000 in locker and 400 over ice chest it would barely get up and going. If you were not 100% straight some riders had a hard time getting up on board the pull was so slow.

New 5 blade and shoots right up out of water. at 12 ish we dropped from 3600 RPM to 2900RPM so it will save some gas too. I am pretty happy so far..

Here they are, the prop looks great... (I think so anyway ;o)

This is a WOT test with 3 adults empty ballast 37.5MPH at 5300RPM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AovKjeyrOuU

This is a test pulling a wakeboarder with 3 adults, full KGB + around 1000lbs so figure 2000lbs of ballast.

Double ups are cavitation free, the boat rides silky smooth, all thumbs up for me I am very pleased!

I would contact Eric at OJ, the prop was a big improvement for my boat.

Most prices i have seen are $611.xx with free shipping

Local oj dealer quoted me msrp plus shipping from oj to Canada which is nuts...was he going to charge me duties also?

Put the prop on this week and went surfing sacked out. I have the MCX and it was soooooo smooth. To be fair - I had the stock 2008 4 blade prop on before. No science behind it, but it really pulls nicely out of the hole!

I had some great conversations with OJ and Acme

So many options and pros to switching to a 5 blade or even a 15" 4 blade prop
