View Full Version : How fast is your X45?

I just got my new 2010 x45 to 20 hours. This means I was able to finally open it up. Found that the top speed is only 37-38mph. I was surprised as I was told it was more like 44 or 45.

Does 38 sound right to you guys?

Boat had no ballast, no passengers, smooth water, tab all the way up, Indmar 400HP. Burns an ungodly amount of fuel (about 15 gallons per hour).

I realize that I did not buy a speed boat and can live high 30's but just wanted to make sure there was not something wrong as my last wakeboard boat hit a solid 45.

Thanks...

I think my speed guage is off but I am also running the 'wrong' prop since it is what came with boat.. but 07 X-45 LY6 (400hp) and wide open its at 5k and it pegs speedometer at 55, so might be even a little more

Put a GPS on the boat. There may be a problem with the speedos rather than one with the drivetrain.

An $85 GPS (http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-eTrex-Handheld-GPS-Navigator/dp/B000PDV0CE/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0) will have far higher speed accuracy than any speedo, with the caveat that it may take 2-3 seconds to settle on the right speed.

No need to spend any money probably, if you have an iphone or one of the android phones there's a free gps speed app that's perfectly accurate and will do the job to check how close your speedo is.

I have been meaning to check with iphone.. I just keep forgetting maybe tomorrow. I would say we also run in a river so there is current but I can peg it going up and downstream.

What prop are you running? What is your RPM at wide open throttle?

55 mph? I doubt that, check it with a GPS.

My 07 x-45 w/ 350 gets to 43 or so - might be an issue with the gauge

Thanks everyone. All good ideas. I had to leave the lake in a hurry yesterday and did not think about looking at the prop specs. I assume though that all LY6 X45's ship with the same prop??

I have an android so I will check the speed with that. I have the new BIG display so I am not sure if you can add a GPS attachment.

The RPM, if I recall correctly, was about 5k.

Ya, I highly doubt you are seeing 55mph. That boat should be about 43-47mph on a GPS.

NFW you're getting 55 out of a 45. Just saying. Mine has done 47 GPS verified, with the L18.

No agree it was rediclious... I was just saying what the gauge was reporting... so 30 on the speedo was 23.4 on the GPS.. Anyway to recal the boat?

I didn't GPS wide open today was windy with some chop

Was on a friend's new '11 X45 LSA over Mem Day at Powell.
WIth 2 people in the boat, plate down, 1.5-2' chop it would hit 40mph straight up GPS, calibrated the speedo for him. Guessing it would have had a few more mph in it on smooth water for sure. Not sure on the prop. I'd say lower pitch as he bought it in Denver (high alt), but with the blown LSA it may still be a higher pitch.
Never saw the boat out of the water to see what prop it has and he didn't know.

I would guess that you are right. Being as the LSA has forced induction, altitude doesnt really have an effect on performance. There shouldnt be any reason to have a different prop with that engine.

My 09 X-45 with LY6 does mid to high 40's at 5k rpm, depending on weight and gas. Sounds like your speedo needs calibrating, unless a GPS confirms you're really going that slow, then I'd take it back to the dealer and have them look at it / calibrate it.

So I guess 38 for my "little" 400 HP motor is not that far off if a blown LSA is doing 40. I will be back up to Havasu next week and will get the prop specs.

The difference between 38 and 44 only means that it will take me a little longer to get from my house to the springs for those awesome bloody mary's they make! If you have not been to the springs on Havasu near the dam make it a point to go there and partake in a Mary.

I will also check with a GPS and make sure things are OK. If not the dealer will have to figure it out.

The speed displayed on the speedometer is adjustable. Once you calibrate your speed with a GPS, iphone or android app, it is easy to adjust it with the functionality provided with the boat controls. I have a 2005 X-45 and my speedo is adjustable. All boats have some sort of adjustment knob or switch to calibrate the displayed speed.

You will get more speed with a slight chop to the water.

I know it's fun to know WOT, but the other day my mechanic said it best. It says World Record 'TOW' Boat. When's the last time someone asked how fast a 'TOW' truck is :)
