I have been reading many threads that cover barefoot booms but I still have a couple questions. I own a 2010 PS 197 with mini tower. I want a boom to teach the kids to ski and also I am interested in taking up barefooting. I've been looking through the threads about tower compared to pylon booms. From what I can tell the main advantages of the tower boom are getting it out of the way by taking it out of the boat. Also putting the user farther forward and more out of the spray. Is that about all I am getting for that extra money? Unless I am missing something I'm thinking a boom for my pylon is the way to go. Can anyone tell me what pylon boom will work for my boat?

The disadvantage to a tower boom is you can't jump out while the boat is moving.
Barefoot International should be able to steer you in the right direction.

BI makes a great boom, but ECI also makes a great boom. I have used both, and find the ECI easier to handle. It is lighter and easier to install & adjust.
Good luck,
Kevin

call barefoot international. They will tell you exactly what will work with your boat, and why. Even give you a cell number to call while installing, just in case you have issues.

Cudos to BIs customer service. When i was trying to decide what boom to buy, i called and left them a message. In 5 minutes Mike seipel called me back and answered all my questions. The next day he called me again just to see if i had anymore questions.....rivaled only by eric from OJ for customer service in my mind.

Called BI and talked to Mike. Got his cell phone and called him after what would be considered normal business hours. He answered and talked to me about the booms. Great customer service from him. He told me I needed a B202 universal countour boom, a B110 Boom extension, and the B111 hand grip for the kids. Anyone know of a used one at a good price?

You called a man after hours to pick his brain about his product, and now you are looking to buy from somewhere else, and even worst used where he won't see a dime?

I have a 2004 197 and I would HIGHLY recommend the boom extension. It keeps you farther out of the spray and if you are teaching kids, that is important since you will be going slower and the spray will be worse (wider) than running at Barefoot speeds. When I bought my boom, there would occasionally be one around on Craigslist or even the TT market, but the shipping cost generally seemed to eat up any potential savings of buying used. I waited until Overtons had a free shipping on sales over $150 and ordered from them.
You will also want to position the boom so that it is as close to the base of the windshield at the gunnel as possible. This will put it about 10-15 degrees less than perpendicular to the side of the boat toward the bow, but also pulls the skier in front of the spray.
Have fun.

Got tired of looking for used and decided to go new. Going to go with the boom mounted to the pylon instead of the tower. Will also be getting the boom extention. Besides for myself, will be using this to teach the 5 year old how to ski as she grows. I see they also have a childrens handle for the boom. Does anyone have that or recomend that? Will it take the place of the extension? Do I need both? Any other extras that people recomend?

Children's handle is recommended for those little hands, so much more comfortable

You can't go wrong with both.
I'd recomend both cause of the low speed with kids just make sure they are good and out of the side spray.
I have a BI contour boom that fits my 06 X9 that I have never used. This one mounts to the lower part of the pylon in front of the engine cover. It was included with my boat when I bought it a few years ago. I will dig it out of the corner of my shop where it has been stored for the last 2 years and see what the numbers are.

TXX9. I am highly interested in your boom. Please post pics and a price
Ok. The contour boom I have is actually an ECI. The only thing it is missing is the bolt that connects the 2 sections together, and the rubber lining inside the pylon clamp needs to be replaced. I know what it retails for new and have a decent feel for the used market value. PM me a reasonable offer. I am willing to make someone a real good deal.

Anyone have any input as to which side to run the boom out to. Port or Starboard? We have one, makes sense on a paperclip shaped, counter clock wise lake to run it out the right side? Thanks

Always try to turn into the skier. The back end swinging away from the skier USA better safe than sorry rule.
