well, try as I might, I can't get my boat buddy to latch on it's own. If I push the plate with a screwdriver, it will latch, but the anchor ring won't set it on it's own. This has happened on several ramps/locations, and last night, I stood at the front of the trailer while my 3rd pulled the boat on the trailer. He hit the buddy square, didn't latch. It is in the correct slot.
is there any way to adjust this, or is it time for a new one?

One of the first times I drove my 2002 prostar on the trailer I must have hit the boat buddy a little hard. After that it didn't work quite right. I tried to have a friend heat it up and bend it back into shape which worked for a while. Now I think it's time for a new one. Mine latches but doesn't go all the way through to the other side. I think they are $90 or so at Overtons.

I've noticed on mine:

if I pull the pin out wrong, I bend the little tang that rotates forward or backward... you know where I'm talking about, it's the handle part that you grab onto to pull the pin out.
I first found this out because I could rotate the pin rearward, launch the boat, and just the bouncing of the trailer going up the ramp empty would trip the pin closed.

*edit
all I know is when mine is acting stupid, I han bend the tang a little and it straightens out:o

I had the same problem with mine. On close examination, I had a slight bend in the track which I was able to bent back with a screwdriver, and with a ton of WD40 sprayed on with a few hour wait, it now works perfectly.

Make sure it's lubed up and then you could try new softer spirngs from Lowes/Home Depot. I changed mine to be like a feather trigger.

mine just started mis-behaving. I'll look to see if anything's bent.

My adjustment was to take the attachment bolt out, remove the boat buddy, place it on the ground (make sure, the pin is disengaged at this point), stomp on it, throw it in the trash, and replace it with a nonmarring poly bow roller.

Honestly, if and when I have a closed bow boat, I'll go back to it. Until then, it's just too easy to walk up to the bow and hook up the winch.

There are 3 positions for the setting arm that hangs down. Forward position is open, [pin is out of boweye and locked in the open position], Middle position, [pin is in the boweye after having been tripped], Rearward position, [armed and ready to be tripped by boweye]. Rotate the entire boat buddy into a more horizontal position, which will expose the trigger bar more to the boweye. Do you have the required long boweye for use with the Boat Buddy?

Took mine off last week and threw it in the trash. Got a clear bow roller for 12$. I love it. No black marks and the boat just rolls off so easily. I love it.
