Well i thought i would share a product thrall discovered and shared with me.... Malco leather and plastic cleaner. Wow.

It removed all the old yellow stains from the cover, and a lot of the dirt that i though would never come off. The seats went from this:

to this with the spray.

You discovered??
Hahaha, told you about that stuff in your last thread about your seats. Glad it worked well for you.

Hahah shh lemme enjoy the feeling for a bit. This is the only cleaner I've seen that actually cleans. Do you condition the vinyl after? It seems to leave it pretty smooth and soft with just the malco

I would definitely hit it with some 303!
The malco is pretty harsh stuff (that's why it works!).

I just ordered their leather conditioner

Their leather conditioner works well, the major difference between it and 303 is that 303 has sunscreen in it, the leather conditioner does not.
Either one, hopefully, will make any stains easier to clean off in the future!

ah yes, i do like the UV protection. I have some babes leather / vinyl condition which has UV protection which seems nice, but its a bit pricey for how small of a bottle it is. Whats is the 303 condition called so i can order it on amazon?

Well, you are not going to be too happy about the price of 303 Aerospace Protectant, either! :o
Here it is on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/303-Products-303-32-Aerospace-Protectant/dp/B004YJQE0S/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1309177695&sr=8-15)

Last time I ordered some, I found the best deal at the mfg. website (after considering shipping), they now have a 3-fer package with a gallon refill, a 16oz bottle, and a pop-up dispenser for $73 right now.
http://www.303products.com/shop303/index.cfm/product/59_362/three-for-one-aerospace-protectant-special-offer.cfm

Seems like the deal I got at the time was a gallon, 16oz bottle, and 2x pop up dispensers, and free shipping.

I like keeping the pop-ups on the boat for either spills, or a quick wipe down/touch up.

You can also get free samples from the mfg. website... free is good...

I've had mine outside for the last couple days, covered, and I put towels over the sundeck and top of front seat and so far it's kept any color xfer from getting on the vinyl.
If your cover is in good shape, for someone like you that covers it all the time outside, I'd get an upholster shop to sew in a white cloth liner over the offending areas.

That's exactly what we were talking about doing. Im not sure if my cover is considered to be in good shape though...

Looks good from here! As long as it's not getiing dryrotted where it will tear soon. They hold up well. Prev dork owner of my 06 left it out in the LV sun all summer every summer, said it was a PITA to take the tower down. (How many times would he really had to take it down putting avg 12hrs a year on it??)
1st cover lasted him 2-1/2 yrs before it tore. 2nd one had 1-1/2 yrs on it when I bought the boat and it's in good shape, but the rubber vents are cracked and the plastic buckles are pretty faded. FWIW, the sun in the SW will take out a blue plastic tarp, disintegrated, in less than 2 months in the summertime.

Notice you changed your first post! You didn't have to do that, but it makes me feel better!:D;)

haha i changed it after your reply. dont wanna step on anyones feet.

Im pretty sure the PO used the cover outside all the time. It does seem a bit frail, but hey if it keeps most of the elements out, and doesn't do the damage to my seats ill keep it for a while...

I give up.

Took the cover off to go ride this afternoon after the storm passed, and this is what I discovered. The towels i put down were just wet, but not discolored.

What should i replace first. Im thinking of ordering the sundeck vinyls as they are clearly damaged. In the mean time while i wait for the vinyls I would take one of the damage interior seats (which has no sign of this brown stuff / damaged vinyl) which is ripped, and wrap it in the cover, and place the cover in the same environment as the boat. Then when i take the seat out ill be able to see if the damage occurs to this other seat also which will tell me the cover also needs to be changed. While if the damage does not occur, i can possibly continue to reuse my cover.

those pics don't look as bad as it was...maybe if you keep treating/conditioning it will go away??

agarabaghi
06-28-2011, 09:29 AM
hmm, it seems to be pretty much the same. I left the boat uncovered today, hoping there will be some sun. I will try the malco cleaner again, but im pretty sure i will not cover the boat until something is replaced.

Is it the cover or trapped moisture that is causing this? I swear by the 303. Been using it for years now. And on a few diffrent boats as well. It's a bit pricy but a great investment.

The 1st time the boat was stored outside and it didnt rain or anything... I ordered a new cover and 4 new vinyl skins.

Will you be out on the chain this coming weekend?

So weird. I left mine at the storage place for 2 weeks. Came back and mine started to discolor too. Let it sit out in the sun for a few days straight and it came right out. Same factory cover from 02

Yea, i believe the vinyle starts to deteriorate and then discolors with the heat / abrasive surlast cover.

As the cover will be here before the vinyle im going to try with the sunbrella and see if the current vinyls discolor... just for a test.

Living on the water does kick @ss, until the tax statement comes. Then it is suck @ss till I forget about it. Which is normally the next boat ride.

Yea, white and black X1 with a large white speaker on the tower (might be black if the sock is on) and a nose that sits very low in the water due to 560lbs of lead up there haha...

I know your boat and the pirate flag!

We wanted to do a dog island bbq but i have a feeling this is not the weekend to try and claim it.

We thought of leaving my 120 lbs rottweiler mix on the island without food for a day prior. She would devour anything that set foot on the island. ha ha ha

Call me crazy, but it looks like the stains are coming back exactly the way they appeared in the first pictures. I guess they are in the material and are bleeding back out? Makes sense since the towels you put under the cover didn't get stains on them.
