how do i get the engine to rev out of gear?

It's a new-to-me boat, and I'm having alot of fun with it. It will start, idle, and drive ok. But if I am sitting at idle without the tranny engaged, I can't move the throttle. To engage, I lift up on the disc right below the throttle knob and it will allow the throttle to move forward, but also engage the throttle.....

Once i bring the throttle to idle, the tranny will disengage fine.

If I just want to increase the RPMs while not moving the boat, how do I do it? There is a button on the bottom of the throttle lever, but when I push that in, nothing happens and the throttle still won't move.

With the throttle in neutral, pull up on the ring by the ball, press the button at the bottom of the throttle in and push forward.

On your shift lever at the base...push in the round tab about the size of a nickel. You can only push in when the boat is in NEUTRAL. Rev the engine towards reverse

Hope this helps

he needs to lift up and push button while holding it in and push it forward.

do you mean with thotteling up the engine, or just in general?

turn boat on (throttle in neutral)
lift lever while pushing in the button (throttle in neutral)
While still holding the button in and lifting up push the stick forward

then push foward like you are trying to drive foward. with pushing in the button, or pulling out in some models, it will stay in neutral.

OK....so, SECOND worst question ever......I'll give that point.

Thanks for the inputs. I got it settled now. Still trying to get familiar with it. But, just to close out the thread......push button in, pull up on the plunger thing, and then the engine will rev (out of gear) in fwd or reverse.

go foward with it, just make sure you have water hooked up to it so you dont run dry.

I'm assuming you don't have an Owner's Manual for your boat? If not, you can download one at www.mastercraft.com/knowledge/owners_manuals
It will help keep you on the straight and narrow in terms of operation and maintenance.

Thats weird, the 2003 manual doesnt include the 205v or x2.

X2 is on p. 57 -- same as the 205v but without the tower and ballast.
