View Full Version : Best Prostar Ever

Ok I just sold my Tige 22v and looking for something along the lines of . More skier less wake boarder. Anyways there seems to a lot of prostars out there so the question is what are the best years for them. Looking at all of them from 190's to 197's. 205's to 209's no vdrives just the DD's

Go for either a '94 190 with the LT-1 or any 190/197 from 2003 on.

96 205 hands down.....smiley face

Exactly what I was thinking, if you're primarily a slalom skier.

The 205 changes year to year:

Agree with reply above... can also get a '93 with an LT-1....same boat.

If you find a good '01/'02 190/197 the main difference as compared to the newer ones is the amount of hook on the trailing edge of the hull. That can be added by any decent glass shop for a fairly small amount of money.

There is a 2001 closed bow on sk-it-again that looks like a good deal...

Another closed bow 2001, Prostar 190..... $14.8k

or this one $19.9k

Edit: Jorski.....congrats on the 1000th post too!

From a slalom standpoint my 93 PS190 with Powerslot was awesome .... period.

The 197 hull has less spray and so a 214 is the bigger, way to go over a 209 ....

The classic 205 platform is time tested and darn good as well ....

Also, the 209 was not considered an ideal ski wake.....more of an all around type boat. The 197 or 214 would be a better ski wake than the 209.

Good question to start with, but is a little open ended without more info from you. Price range, age range, main usage, etc.? You say that it will be used for skiing mostly, open water skiing, course skiing, short line skiing? Do you ski in tournaments? Will you be skiing in tournaments? If you do, then do you need to practice with Zero Off or Perfect Pass?
These are some question that you might want to think about with your boat purchase. I personally love my 1996 PS 190 w/ LT1 and Powerslot transmission. I do not need to practice or ski with Zero Off. Either way, IMO you will enjoy skiing behind a MC.

If EFI is a must have for you then, either a 93-94 Prostar (93 option EFI LT1, 94 EFI standard)
if it doesnt have to be EFI then a 91-94 Prostar (same hull) considered one of the best slalom wakes ever. If you want an open bow, its hard to beat the 92+ 205. or a 03+ Prostar 190/197
any Prostar 190/205/197 from 91 on is going to be a great slalom wake.

I'm thinking the 300 is great place to start. You master that wake on the course everything else is gravy!

2011 Prostar 197 with the 6.0 Ilmore!!!! Come ski behind it since your local.

I wanted the best wake (no wake i mean) so I picked up a 93' ps190. It is absolutly the best boat I have ever been behind period. Get one with a fuel injected motor if you can. Also, if you want to check it out I'll give you a pull if you are anywhere near salem,or.

Thanks for the all input guys. I am in Ut. Most of the time will free skiing and some course time to. I am really thinking the early 90's PS 190's is what I will end up with. Thanks again

91--94 Ps 190
92--95 Ps 205

2002 or newer 197 is the best way to go in my opinion...

This may be what you are looking for........

In my opinion EFI = sliced bread, indoor plumbing, cooking with gas, etc, etc. So the best ProSTAR starts with check in that box for me.

Will say the best hull/wake I've ever skied was the 94 PS 190 (EFI LT-1).

Good luck with your search...not sure you can wrong with any MC PS 190/197/205 slalom hull! Get out there and enjoy it...whatever you end up with!

I had a '94 prostar 190 LT-1 powerslot......it was awesome!

"Craig" on here has it now.....and I'm pretty sure he loves it!

06-14-2011, 06:02 PM
I'm sure the LT-1 is really nice to have. I used to ski behind the LT-1 so I appreciate the engine. But being a slalom skier and owning a '94 prostar with the standard EFI engine (powerslot), I can say that the LT-1 isn't necessary for good skiing.

IMO most of the direct drive Mastercrafts are going to provide a more than adequate wake if you have decent form through the wakes and ski at faster speeds (34-36). If you ski at slower speeds I think being picky about wakes becomes more important.
