Hi guys,
I am looking at buying a 1997 205 Prostar LT-1. This boat will be a starter boat. The boat is in good condition and tomorrow morning I am going to take it for a test drive. The one worry i have about the boat is that it has close to 1200 hours on it. The engine has been serviced regularly, but I feel that 1200 hours is due for an overhaul at the very least. How much more life can i expect to get out of this engine, especially with it being a high performance model? The seller is asking $12995. The seller has stated that the engine is in great condition. What should I look out for as easy warning signs. Also does the price seem reasonable? Any help is appreciated.

I just bought a 97 Sammy Duvall LT1 Prostar 205 with 660 hrs on it. Needed 700 dollars worth of interior work. It came with a wakeboard tower with lights and speakers. And a tandem axle trailer. I paid $10k just for comparison.

2000+ hours is not uncommon for a well maintained unmolested inboard. The LT1 is a little quirky compared to the standard TBI motor. A compression test would be a good place to start. As far as the price goes, they go as high as 16-17K W/ low hours in mint condition.

Good luck and post some pics!

Ha another hour question! My girl has 2700+ hours on her original longblock. All that has been replaced was the timing gear set when a new waterpump gasket went on for obvious reasons.

Its all about the maintenance.

I am beginning to think I stole my 96 Prostar 190 LT.....

Now inquiring minds want to know!
I sold my 96, 190 LT-1, 500hrs, ND tower, tandem trailer, interior and exterior 9 out of 10 for a 13 year old boat, 2 yrs ago for $13500. I felt about $1k light in the wallet after the deal, but it was in the height of the economy dump.

I bought a 1996 Prostar 190 Lt1 with 422 hours. One owner. Single axle trailer that need some work. No wake tower. Meticulous owner that kept boat covered in boat house. The interior is like new (9 out of 10). I spent 4 hours getting rid of oxidation off the navy blue. Service records that show all synthetic oil in motor. Runs great. Needs a new stereo system....still got the original. $9300.....how'd I do? I don't think he knew what he had.
