The red protection light is lit up on my JL M6450 amp. I've disconnected all speakers and it is still lit. Is there a way to reset this somehow? The manual doesn't mention anything but "correcting the problem" I'm hoping that this isn't an indication that the amp is shot. I'd appreciate anyone's experience with correcting this.

Thanks in advance

Any car audio amp I had, that meant the amp was toast.

After checking for any shorts in the speakers, I've continued to dig into the internals of the amp. I was able to find that one of the output transistors on channel 6 (there are 2 per channel) was shorted. I found a replacement IRF540 at a local electronics place, soldered it in and it started right up. It was working in the driveway, but stopped again by the time I got the lake yesterday. I've still got some troubleshooting to do but this amp may be toast. It's a terrible waste of aluminum. 95% of the weight of that thing is unnecessary extra heatsink trying to give the impression of higher quality.
