View Full Version : Where to get heads for 1992 PS205!

I have seen a few others with hairline cracks that have developed in their heads. I seem to have the same problem and have decided to replace them for now. Block was drained last fall so not sure how it happened. Engine runs great with no water in oil etc... My question is can anyone suggest the best place to get heads for the 351W? I see new ones on Ski DIM but they are very expensive. Can I just get the casting numbers on them and match them up with a auto parts supplier? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nothing special with the cylinder heads you can use almost any, alot of people swap in edelbrock aluminum heads

The 351 heads are called E7 castings for a non high output engine, 240hp. The higher hp engines came with gt40 heads. Only difference for marine heads are brass freeze plugs.

It shouldn't be hard to get replacement heads for your Ford 351W . Here's a Tri-State (http://www.tristatecylinderhead.com/) or Clearwater Cylinder Heads (http://cylinder-heads.com/) are two sources that have given me and others good service. You might want to consider switching over to GT40-P heads as long as you are swapping them out. The P heads will give you a nice increase in HP for very little extra cost over a set of standard heads. If you do go with the P heads, tell whoever you are getting them from that you intend to use them on a 351W in your boat. They can drill out bolt holes to 1/2 inch and put in the brass freeze plugs right away.

I forgot about the p head upgrade, definatly cost less than aluminum heads...

P heads are popular at any ford machine shop. Gave $400 for the pair for my boat. My advise is yellow pages for machine shop and ask around. Most machine shops know racers. They know where the ford guys are and how to get you a pair.

Mine were rebuilt completely valve job and all for that price.

Standard GT-40 heads are better and more desirable than the Gt-40P but either are an upgrade from the standard 351 heads that came on the non HO motor. Lots of head options for small block Fords.

Not $1600 more desirable.

P heads claim 20 more HP too.

Made financial sense to put p heads on mine.

I got mine from Richards machine shop in euless Tx. 817-545-0799

Sorry for having my head up my #%^ to my shoulders for thinking you were no where near me. I will read more next time.

Thanks so much. I'll take this all in and make a decision Monday. My boat has the 351W HO. We had just swapped the carb to a brand new 4160, new CAM and lifter set, timing chain and gear etc... The boat runs great but this hairline leak appeared. Hopefully this will be it for the season. Thanks again.

I ordered some GT40Ps off ebay from member Odessa*cylinderheads for $215 a piece, with brass freeze plugs, holes drilled to 1/2", no core charge and free shipping. They shipped fast. I coupled that with an Edelbrock Performer intake on my non-HO 245hp and the difference was instantly noticiable

$1600 more????? You can buy a set of really nice aluminum Trickflows or AFRs for $1200 a pair.
