View Full Version : Velvet drive front seal blow out after rebuild

We just finished rebuilding out velvet drive transmission (1:1 on an 88 prostar 190). After about 5 minutes of cruising around the lake we lost power and saw that fluid was in the bilge. We refilled, started the engine and saw a steady leak coming from the bottom of the bell housing. After getting home, we pulled the transmission to find the front seal had been pushed out.

Has anyone had this happen? Where should we begin to look for a solution?

Had this discussion with another boater recently. There is a small lock ring that holds everything in place along the shaft. If that ring is not put back in or is not properly installed then you have the problem you described.

This thread should help.
