View Full Version : Help stuck prop.

Last weekend we hit a submerged log and dinged the prop up pretty good, the prop spun on the shaft as well by shearing the square key. I tried last night to get the prop off last night with an ACME puller but with no luck. I thought about using a 3 jaw wheel puller and some heat. help
Thanks seth

You will need a puller for pressure on from the back of the prop. Then heat the collar with the torch keeping the nut on the shaft....and it should POP off.

Ohio said it best. BE VERY CAREFUL when you apply the heat. It will most likely pop off with serious force. You don't want it to hit you!!

I only have a propane torch and it did the job. Mapp sure would have been nice and would have been quicker. If you use propane you might be there a while

I use propane and it takes about 2-5 minutes of moving it around the collar. Should be less with the key sheared.

:D I shouldn't say this out loud... :D

1 - 12" Cresent wrench opened around the drive shaft and placed behind the prop.

1 - 4lb hammer

With nut loosened but still on the shaft, several whacks on the wrench. Prop will pop right off... :)

Please don't try this at home... :uglyhamme

But it works for me!!
