Hi folks.
Lookin' for some advice before I install a radio/stereo in my 1987 PS190.
What have you all put in?
Std auto / marine head unit?
Where should I fix it?
Where should I put the speakers?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers!

Nice looking boat kingb. Check out my thread on 1990 PS 190 stereo from July 20. BriEOD has the same boat as you and put some pictures of his installation there. If I could do mine again -- before cutting a hole in the dash -- I'd try PeteS's idea (see the same thread) with the gimbal-mounted unit in the interior with a remote control mounted somewhere on the dash.

Man Bri, that's a sweet-looking installation. Where is your subwoofer??? Do ripples emanate from your boat when it's thumping??? :headbang:

Thanks for the props, Shepherd. Here is the housing that I picked up at Boaters World:

I'll try and get some photos of the setup, but it is under the observers seat, on an angle, with access to the face plate by lifting the seat-back.
A wired remote can easily be routed to the dash, or you could do a wireless remote as well. The housing is very durable and water-tight, so there is never an issue with throwing skis or wet towels right onto the gimbal mount.

I have a ported box with two 10's up underneath the dash, and then 4 6.5" Polk Db 650's. A tremendous upgrade from my Overtons's special: POS clarion cd player (marinized--yeah right) and two speakers. At cruising speed I couldn't even here it. Now it's almost to loud!! :D

nice looking boat
mounted mine behind the observers seat, put a remote on it, only have to go under the bow to change the cd, made a box to house the head unit in.i didnt like how most units stick up a little when they are mounted under the mirror.
plus since i got the xmd3 it wouldnt fit anyway.

How did you mount the box without going thru the dash? can you get a pic of that?

in the bottom of the glove box housing there was 4 drain holes to let water escape i bolted through 3 of the holes with silicone around the bolts, the one remaining hole drains out the water.will get a pic up for you tomorrow
