Ok fellas I have my flame suit on and am ready to be lit on fire!!!
Can anyone give me a few captains pointers on rope to pylon do's and donts before this weekend? Its been a long time since Ive been on a proper ski boat and Im usually behind it not driving, so this will be a bit different this time around. Pics would be great here's what I know already....I hope.
-shorten ski rope from the boat side
-obviously no tubing off the pylon with people in the back seat, I installed a bow eye in back for that
-I will be crucified for mentioning pulling tooobers behind a mastercraft.
Other then that I am just looking for the basics to help it all come back to me.
Thanks guys!

Wear the kill switch. Never leave the seat with the engine running. Use a shock tube. No power turns. Be in Idle or on plane never throwing rollers out. Smile and relax and have fun!!

When maneuvering around a skier in the water, keep them on the driver side.
Keep a Stanley knife and swim goggles in the boat in case you wrap the rope.

Make sure to have plenty of half naked women on the boat, and post pictures of them here.

Why not Tubing from a Pylon with People in the back?

Since you have an older S&S, like mine, I do not recommend using an eye installed in the transom for tubing or any other towing without knowing how it is reinforced.
I have seen self installed eyes in older inboards getting ripped out. That would ruin your day.
I always use the pylon and get everybody out of the back of the boat. (thats what the floor beside the engine cover) or leave them on the dock.

I always do it this way, but was told otherwise by someone from the local ski club. Can anyone confirm which way would be better? I would think drivers side would be the safest, and most natural. Sorry for the threadjack....

Always on the driver's side. If you can't see them you can't be sure you're not running them over.
Watch the water around you. Just because you have a flag up doesn't mean the moron on the jetski knows what it means or will stay far enough away. I've had to put my boat between traffic and my skier when stopped to protect them. I'm sure everyone has similar horror stories of near misses.

Thanks guys....but maybe my question was not explained enough.
I need to see how the rope attaches to a standard pylon, I know it may seem stupid but I just want to make sure I am doing it right. The rest of the stuff is a no brainer even for me! Knife and goggles is a good one forgot about that!!!
Thanks guys.

Oh, I have some stories... one involved me jumping out of my boat after I got between a downed skier and a yahoo on a PWC. I thought the drunk a$$ was going to hit the boat. The other involved chasing someone who was WAY to close to the skier in a boat, skier fell, he had to turn hard to miss her, after picking her up, we chased the donkey down and I give verbal warnings... he then got nasty with ME and threatened ME after almost hitting MY skier... I calmly told him if he tried anything he would leave with a hole in him...
I hate people....

Pull the section of the rope that goes to the handle through the loop that you want to use. This creates the loop that you now put over your pylon. Simple. Give it a tug just to me sure you got it right.
I catch my friends doing it the wrong way sometimes.....which can be dangerous if not noticed!

From the title of the thread, I as expecting talk about 2 & 1 oil, gauze pads, anti-freeze and ball bearings.

I give the loop of choice a twist creating a doubled up loop that can be slid over the pilon and pulled against itself. It provides the same concept as Jersey Dave suggests which is good. But you don't need to mess with stringing the handle all the way. If it's the last loop you can push the slack rope thru the loop itself creating exactly the same as Jersey suggests. Have fun. Be safe. My rule is to not pull anyone and scare them. You can ruin a kids, and your summer cuz they will no longer be interested after a ride that is too wild.

Great point on the scare factor, I only have a little one right now and I will start her when I am confident she can get dropped in the water alone and right her self and not be afraid. She is a fish already but at 19mos we have a little ways to go. Ill start her by having someone sit on the back of the boat with a small section of rope then move to a boom if needed. Something tells me she will take right to this like her dad and never look back but only when ready.
Enjoy the weekend boys and thanks for the help!

Why not several holes???
They sure STFU when you show them the hole maker.

Ammo is expensive! LOL
Yes, they do STFU.... I have ever only showed once, the perp hauled a$$. Other times have on been a warning/threat after a threat received.

In Tx if you have a valid fishing license.
A fishing pole and a hook it's ok to carry a hole maker. So I bought at cabellas a Telescoping fishing pole. It collapses to 1 foot. Then at the end of the pole I have like 8' of line tied to the last eyelet of the pole with a hook. Then collapse the pole and wrap the line around the collapsed rod and hook the hook on last. It now looks like a stick that's 1 foot long and has line wrapped around it. There is no reel.
This makes you legal to carry a hole maker in Tx.

Is that possible, with all the other rules?

No pics but rope attaches as Dave described.

Does carrying a fishing pole really make it ok for me to shoot someone in TX? If so, why all the complaints about rollers down there?
