I bought one from DB electrical and ran it for the first time this weekend. no issues. supposed to be 200amp, 120ap at idle.

If you dont mind me asking how much did it run you? Is it a bigger one then your factory?

$395.00 part# 8158-200A I had to mill 0.150" off of one post and put some washers to make it fit my 2006 MCX perfectly. Little bigger than factory. I wanted to check its output but dont have a gauge. I had posted some pics of it here on another thread

I bought a 140amp from DB and my stereo is killing it. I think ? It has 140 amp at 1200rpm and I have to rev up engine to 1200 rpm to run my stereo when sitting of voltage drop sensor goes off. I have a very large stereo. Have you have any issues with with 200amp. What size of amps are you running for your stereo? I have a 2400 watt on 12 speaks and 1200 watt on 4 subs. I have posted on BATTERY PROBLEMS thread on here some of my issues. But don't think a 140 amp is the way to go and very interested in 200amp if that truly is my problem.

I did have to mill a hair off my bracket as well to mount 140 amp ?

the 200amp seems to work good. like i said i havent checked its actual output. 1500a on 4 subs, 1500a on 8 speakers (rms watts). I used to run the stock alternator with less efficient amps and i never heard the voltage drop sensor - maybe i dont have one. The 200a alt will not provide that current contiously, I was told by DB.

Has anyone ever considered adding a 2nd alternator to boost the power you need to run massive sound systems? I know pro audio competition cars have dual setups, just my 2 cents...

So to add an extra alternator would you be adding a modified bracket I assume ?
Custom belt? Has anyone tried this mod. in a boat. I been told to add batteries, I'm sure I need at least a larger alterator. Never thought of 2.... Would like to hear more on that.

Back to my original question: I visited DB electric - and they have about 300 different types of alternators (i may be exaggerating a bit) - I looked at their OEM (white label) hi-output unit which is somewhere in the neighborhood of $350... And then there are a dozen others that are brand-name. Can anyone recommend what they've had good luck with, brand wise - there are a lot of threads on alternators on the forums, but few list what type they actually used.
