Hi All,

I have been a follower of the sight for a while and finally decided to register, the site is great!

Here is the deal, we sold our 98 Supra Comp and are looking to upgrade into an open bow that is capable of being used for Wakeboarding and Wake Surfing, novice at both! I would like to find something in the $25-$30K range, I could stretch it a little for the right boat if need be.

What MC models should we be looking at, that are budget friendly.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

06 X2 and never look back. May be just slightly above your price range depending on hours/engine/features but you could probably get a good 06 X2 at 33k perhaps. Good luck.

I think you would be more in the $39 - 40 range for a 06 X2!

So far using Craigslist I have found - X7's, X9's, X10's, X30's, and a few X2's within my price range, mostly 2001 - 2004's!

X2 changed quite a bit in 2006. Whole new hull design great for surf/wake. The x2 prior to 06 has a great slalom hull but equipted for wakeboard. Newer X2 is tad bigger.

How many will normally be on board?

as 76S&S said, it will depend on how many people you have

check out a 197/X7 or a 209/X9 .... both are inboards, the 197/X7 is 20' and the other is 21' but much rommier ... you can find several on the market section, craigslist, ebay, etc.

I had a '98 Supra once upon a time .... great boat

If he's looking for primarily a surf/wake boat, I would suggest a V drive for starters. Once that is determined, and considering his price range, an 06 X1 may be a good option.

My immediate family size is a big 3, seem to have a few extras but call it under 7 most of the time!

agreed. that was the exact boat i was shopping for this past fall. it would have engine hours in the clouds for that price.

We are rookies to both - wakeboarding and surfing!

I think the Prostar 197 or 205 would be a wonderful choice!!!

X1 or any 205V.

I just picked up an 07 X1 this winter, coming from an 89 Supra Conbrio. We love the X1, tons of room for us. If you're coming from a direct drive you won't believe how much more storage you have in an X1. Surf and wakeboard wakes are great and the slalom wake is not bad (doesn't compare to my old Supra), but I don't slalom as often I used to. I may be a little biased since I have an X1, but every time one of these threads comes up here or wakeboarder.com, people always bring up the X1 (and the previous versions older X-Star, X2 and 205V).

We have an 06 X9, and we boat alot with another family that has an 01 X9. Great crossover boat that will do well with skiing and wake boarding. Not the best at either, but pretty good for both. Tons of room and a solid boat.

Go for an older X2, 205V (now X1, original Xstar, all the same hull) if you don't mind seating only 5-6 people comfortably and place a larger importance on wakeboarding than surfing.
X10 or X30 if you need more room. Remember the Maristar 210 and 230models are the same hull/boat and many of those have a tower and ballast either OEM or aftermarket.
Haven't seen many 06-up X2's in your price range. Only ones have either been stripped of ALL the extras or a ton of hours.

I have the X1 and it is a great tow boat for wakeboarding, good for skiing and surfing. I have mine dialed in where I can free surf as long as I want. The X10 and x30 will have more room but be a little less nimble. There is more than one experienced boater on this board that struggled with a bigger boat for a little while. I think the 06 and up X15 with a wakeplate is the best all around boat (X2 with the wakeplate probably ties but I am anti-picklefork) but I like the smaller easier to tow and drive boat. Bigger for me really isn't better but then we pretty much ski, wakeboard and surf then head home.

If you could find an X30 in that price range you would love the extra room. Is there a garage you are trying to fit it into? I have owned 21 footers as well as an X30 (22.5') and the extra foot and a half is significant IMHO.

I'd look for a newer X1/ X2. As someone mentioned, the X2 was renamed the X1 in 2006 when the 20' pickle fork X2 was introduced. '05 was the first year for drive by wire.

Considering price I would vote for the x 10 in a 03 or 04 year w/ a mcx motor. Should go for somewhere in the high 20's

Given the number of people you plan to board/surf with, the X1/X2 will be fine. Great wakeboard wake. It's not the biggest or roomiest boat out there, given that the hull design goes back to the late 90's, but it is a great boat. Newer boats (current X2 for instance) are all wider. The current X2 is the same length as the X1 but is wider and has more room than the current X1 old X2.

From everything I've read here, the current X1 arguably has a better wakeboard and surf wake than the current X2. And naturally a better slalom wake. Only downside is it's small size.

Thanks for all the help and info - as far as garage space goes, I have plenty of room to store any of the MC models. Coming from a closed bow comp boat I think any open bow will feel bigger for us, I know bigger is better tho, LOL!

Found a good looking (Black) 03 X9 pretty close to home, MCX motor with 400 hours, tower, perfect pass - asking $28k - doesn't sound like a steal of a deal to me, but what are your opinions!

05 209, MCX motor, perfect pass, tower, ballast, claims to have all options - asking $31k and willing to deal!

2007 MasterCraft Prostar 214. 192 hours. MCX 350 hp engine - no tower though - asking $31K

I also found a nice looking 05 SANTE that I might go and take a look at, $33k though!
