I really have not had alot of time wakeboarding behind our new ('02) X30 to mess around with the line length for wakeboarding. Behind my '95 PS205 we use a 55' long rope. What should I be using behind this new board. Assume the 3 ballast tanks are full and there are 2-3 guys in the boat all weighing 200 lbs each.
Thanks for the help.

anywhere from 65-85 feet depending on your skill level, boat speed, and amount of ballast

Boat speed = 18 mph
Ballast = 700 lbs (stock ballast)
Skill level = intermediate at best

I have a wakeboard how-to book written by Jason Weber says start with a 50' line and go from there.
That's what I'm going to try this weekend behind my 230VRS.

Around 53' (22 off loop) and even a little shorter work best for me.

It depends on the level of your riding and the strength of your cut. With your boat weighted down set your speed to around 19-20 (whatever you are comfortable with). If you are at a 55' length jump the wake. If you land out in the flats then let your line out another 5'. If you jump the wake and land out in the flats again let the rope out some more. When you are jumping the wake and landing on the downside of the wake on the other side you are good.
Just remember you don't want to turn and crank at the wake to clear it. If you are having to cut really hard and are sacrificing form you need to shorten the rope such that you can jump wake to wake while taking a comfortable cut.
Starting with a shorter rope allows the rider to go wake to wake easier because the distance is shorter closer to the boat. As the size of the wake and the cut the rider takes increase....the height and distance a rider jumps will increase as well. At this point you can let you line out as long as the rider is comfortable...

The X-30 has a great wakeboarding wake, but the wake is much wider than the wake on your old PS205. You will need to use a shorter line to clear both wakes on the X-30 assuming the same riding ability level . I would agree to start with 50 ft. If you speed up the boat to 20-22, the wake will be a bit narrower at your given line length, and easier to clear. Hope this helps.

A little faster will clean up the wake a little. The wake on mine has the best lip at about 75'
