Well, after many months of waiting on my new X80, it finally arrived. This is my 7th Mastercraft Boat I have owned. My previous boats have been:
2006 X2
2006 X10
2007 X-Star
2008 X-Star 40th Anniversary (metal flake)
2009 X-35 (metal flake)
2010 X-55 (metal flake)

Anyway, I ordered my X55 last year and LOVED it. My plan was to order another X55 this year with the LSA, but after a lot of thought, decided to go with the x80 as I love to wake surf and prefer to surf behind the X80 as the wake is perfect. Now, I prefer a WILD boat, so you will see in these pics that my boat reflects just that. Anyone that doesnt like it, you wont hurt my feelings, but I personally LOVE the way it turned out.
Long story short, there was a glitch in the ordering process at mastercraft. You were not supposed to be able to order a metal flake x80 (or so I was told by the North America Sales rep at the mastercraft Factory), but someone in the I.T. department did not get the right on the online build-a-boat program. By the time the mistake was realized by MC, my boats hull had already been sprayed. Anyway, here are a few pics. Will post more in the next couple weeks.

That would be funny, but I will pass on that one. The Canadian Blue metal flake and fire Red flake look awesome. Will try to get it to show up in pics when I get it out in the sun...

Wow, insane boat.....It's x-80 week here on TT. Good to know that people are still buying these. I would love to see a pic of someone surfing behind it. I assume it has ballast?..trim tabs?
Where do you drive it? Must be a big lake.

I noticed that each year the boat gets bigger. Will 2012 be a 300?

jimmies1
05-18-2011, 12:27 AM
I strongly considered a 300 this year. I really want one, but something about spending $500k (or close to) on a boat keeps holding me back. I have been able to get out of my boats each year so far. Not so sure I could do that with a 300. I am already in a limited market with the 80, the 300 is a VERY limited market for resale....

P.S. My fathers new x80 should be coming in over the next 2 weeks or so. Look for pics of it soon. It will be equally as wild, but different. We share this user ID on team talk (I never bothered to sign up for my own), so look for it under this user name in the very near future :)
My order slot was a couple weeks ahead of his and I just took delivery of my boat last weekend

I'll trade you.......mine seems boring now :( Did you decide dual axle as opposed to triple axle for any particular reason or just was what it was? Wait I've seen two other 80's on the site this week..............does this mean we can finally have an Official X80 thread now since there's 3?

Congrats on the new X80. Like the boat, not so much on the colors. A little to busy for me.

Tough to tell in the pic but this looks like another metalflake X80:

Agreed. I was TOLD by mastercraft that mine was the only one they had built, but looks like thats not the case

To each his own. I like bright, wild boats. They look great on the water. I can respect your opinion though. Thats why they give us options. Everybody is not gonna like the same stuff....

We have had two other x80s in the past, both with tandem axles and never had a problem. My trailer only gets used 2 or 3 times a year. 95% of the time my boat is on my lift at the marina as seen in pics. I take my boat out of the water in September and store it in my climate controled shop over the fall, winter and spring months.

I was waiting for it to come to a stop, doors open up and about 30 clowns to jump out!!

While not my flavor, I'd still surf behind it!

Strange though, it does look better in the slip then on the trailer.

You know I went back and look at the photo of the boat in the slip. It is covering up the interior and the white top part of the boat. I think that's what makes it look better. lol The combo of colors in the interior might be what makes it look not so good to me. When they are covered the boat looks pretty nice.

Could have went either red or blue on the interior but not both.

I wish the top of the boat could be solid black. It does look better, but thats not an option on the x80. The x1, X2 and X25 are the only ones that you can get a color on the upper most section of your gel coat that I am aware of in the X series boats. Further, pics dont do the boat justice. In person it really is HOTT!

With that little towing I can see it wouldn't make a difference. I tow mine everywhere, it's not as hard as people think; just takes a little creative maneuvering at times. When you wanna get rid of it you let me know!

There was also a post on here a few weeks ago showing an XStar with Power Tower and Bimini and it looked like the bimini was way too low but your top looks fine and appears to have plenty of clearance.

That is correct, that particular trailer appears to be a Phoenix. Guide poles aren't nearly as big a deal with a twin engine boat; I had an easier time maneuvering the 80's than I did the 35's and 55's.

Not questioning that maneuvering ability of the vessel, I just know that seeing where the trailer is in the water makes it a heck of a lot easier getting on to it.

BoatMate actually offers it as a factory option. I think they're actually called "runway lights", and they come on when a float switch in the trailer is triggered IIRC. I'm sure you could retrofit pretty easily... would be a cool project.

Does the X80 trailer not come with guide poles?

The Sport Boat Trailers for the 80 have them. And they are field goal-esque but IMO necessary when you get the front end up to the bow bumper and go to pull it out of the water, the boat tends to wash to one side or the other and the guide poles are nice to keep it centered.

I think your boat looks awesome, Jimmies1.

I'd love to have an X-80 in lime green with avacado interior and chartruse/pink trim....and purple dingle balls.....and a big fat mean lady to ride shotgun.......

But you got to pick your boat out so more power to you, buddy!....Enjoy.

To each there own...

With multiple postings and photos of the boat...I think everyone is entitled to there opinion.
The photos where put out there...for comments to be made!

scott you have put your opinions out there a time or two...It took a while for me to like the 4oth anniversary boats...Now I wish I could get more

Jim@BAWS

Opinions are one thing Jim, not all boats are nice in all eyes, but Duckguy post seemed to be more of a personal attack.

Yeah, not sure I have ever heard Scott build someone up by patronizing him, then knock him down by basically saying it's the ugliest MC ever. Can't compare Scott's character to Duck's Jim, sorry....

Lets see the tow rig! I'm guessing a lifted 2011 King Ranch.

I dig the boat.

Its funny, my daughter does some wild designs on design-a-boat and prints them out and I tell her how great they look while in the back of my mind thinking how terrible it would look on an actual boat. However, now after seeing a real boat done up with a wild color scheme I'm thinking she might be on to something--looks really good, nice work!

Funny you should make the above post, while its not LIME GREEN, our other boat is Bright Orange. It just came in this week. Here it is. While I am sure some of you may not like it, we think it turned out awesome. Love the wild color, especially when they are on the water.

No, did not sell the other boat. We ordered both of these boats at the same time. The other one just completed production sooner. We are Father and Son and each have our own boat.

I did the same. Had to have the trailer portion welded on though since my SBT trailer was too wide for the bolt on assembly. Very stable. Also converted it to electric over hydrolic brakes. Trailer will stop before the truck.

When I saw the first one I thought of the "design a terrible mastercraft" competition that MC ran but like others the more I see the more I like it. Not so keen on the interior however.

The orange one I do really like, the world needs more orange MC's.

electric brakes? What did that conversion cost? I thought that electric brakes were unavailable on a boat trailer due to submersion at the ramp. Or do you just disconnect prior to unloading/loading?

They are electric over hydraulic........instead of the surge brakes they removed that mechanism and replaced it with a solid coupler, attached the brake lines to a pump w/reservoir type system which connects to my brake box in the truck. 6 disc brakes stop quick. I've had to hit the brakes a couple times and no issues. The cost, I honestly cannot recall it was about two years ago but wasn't outrageous. The parts in the water are still what they were when it was surge so nothing changes except I push the reverse button for backing.

Looking at the length of the boat and truck, I seriously doubt there would be enough ramp at our lake to even put it in the water!

Those color schemes are just ugly...Im sorry if I offend anyone, but not my first choice. And Mastercraft messed up with the graphics and the power tower is no prize either. Like I always say, if its brown, flush it down. And metal flake in my opinion belongs on fishing boats. But off my soap box now, enjoy your purchase.

The color schemes are definitely starting to grow on me. My personal preference is more conservative, but no one will drive by either of those two boats and not notice them. Not sure I could ever justify stepping up to the plate and buying a brand new Mastercraft, but there is something to be said about getting exactly what you want. I'd love to see a pair of X-80s out on the lake sometime. Hope you're enjoying the new rides!

I'm offended! I have brown on my boat....actually tan......black and tan....and white. How can anyone not like that?

OK I'm not actually offended......just wanted to defend brown. Brown is not a bad guy, sometimes it depends on who he's hanging out with. In Jimmies1 case, who cares? He has an X-80.....Let him pick whatever color he wants, because he CAN. Jimmies1 can I ride on your X-80, or your dad's X-80? I don't care what color it is.....can I drive one?

Love the brutal honesty in this thread. That's what makes this forum work.

I'm pretty sure I was on your old boat this past weekend up at Priest Lake. New owner said he purchased through Ebay from an exotic car dealership-told him I thought I'd seen a picture of it on teamtalk-the black Wetsounds Pro 485s on the tower must have made an impression. Fantastic boat pretty cool to see some similarities between and X-80 and my MS 200. Kids were wakeboarding and I took a quick surf set behind it. Hopefully I'll have a chance to try it out more thoroughly some time in the future.

Yes! I realize I am thread resurrecting here but I gotta say that to be able to buy a brand new X80, then the exotic car biz must be booming. I gotta find a way to get into that market! lol Can't wait to see your next boat, Jimmies1! BTW, how many ppl usually go out on your boat? Do you have a big crew or just like having a tremendous amount of space?
