Well, I finally got around to finishing up the stereo in the boat. Currently just 2 speakers and the head unit.
I can't find any place to put the rear speakers?????

I will snap some photos of the rear of the boat when it stops raining, and then maybe you guys could give me some ideas for the location of atleast 2 more speakers.

Looks good Erk, you gonna keep her now?

Nice install, Erk! Your baby looks all wet from the rain. Get a cover on her, and you might want to find a different location to store your platform. One wrong move, and you could be looking at a tear in your great looking vinyl.
Sweet looking boat.

Just curious, why do you always take your teak platform off? Is this something that should be done?
Unkle Erkle, is your buyer requesting rear speakers?

My guess is to fit the trailer in the driveway, but I may be way off on that one.

At least get the speaker grills straight. One is correct the other is crooked.

Was there any radio in the boat at all when you got it? My 1999 Sportstar has nothing and I would really like a radio. Just wondering how difficult it is.

The speaker behind the drivers seat is missing one top mounting screw, which is why it appears turned slightly. I have to make a braket or something for behind the speaker for the screw to bite into for it to be secured properly.
The teak platform is off so that I can put the rear transom straps on. The platform is not touching the vinyl, there is a barefoot wetsuit and a towel in between the platform and interior. There is no "good" place to store it in the boat either.
Yes, I am keeping the boat! So, the current owner is requesting rear speakers.

There was NO radio when I got the boat. I did have the cutout in the dash and all the wiring under the drivers console already there for me though. It took about 2 solid hours with 2 people. I did the speakers while my cousin did the head unit. Overall, a 3 beer project. Not for difficulty, just because you are outside working in the heat and it took some time.

She is covered every night! The water droplets you see is from when I washed the exterior. Hadn't done the interior yet.

I thought you don't drink?
Wise choice on keeping the boat. Especially if it would mean being boatless for 30 days.

The cutouts were their and it was prewired and it took you 2+ hours. My daughter could have done that in 2 hours. Aren't you the one that said he was going to join the electricians union? Erk, you better speed it up man.

You still had to run the wires down the sides of the boat, and hook up all the wires to the head unit. Plus, I was alittle skeptical about cutting the carpet and vinyl on the side panels of the interior.
I don't drink, but still use the beer scale of difficulty.

It's an expression Erk. I wasn't necessarily saying you were telling a lie. I was just implying that it sounded a whole lot like whining and you not knowing what you were doing and that caused you to take two hours to do a 45 minute job. Therefore, your hem-haw response/story is your own so if your going to tell it at least make it a good story.

If there is room in the truck, you can try putting the platform there while towing? That way if the wetsuit slips when you hit a bump, the platform doesn't scape or tear the vinyl.
Typicaly, I can route the straps in the gap between the platform and the transom on mine. Although much older with a different design, it may be something to explore. Boat looks great though!

I may have missed something, but, what do you need the straps for? I have the same boat and have never starpped the transom down.
Getting back on topic. I installed some enclosed speakers in the forward opening of the gunnels. Can on ly see them from the rear. They put enough sound back to the rear seat for me. I can take a pic and post if you'd like.

Bcampbe7 - I have a '95 and don't strap the boat down either. Some people prefer the peace of mind...I tow roughly 1200 miles a year to Cumberland and back and never had an issue keeping the boat on the trailer. To each his own.

I strapped the transom down on the I/O I owned because they sit high on the roller trailers making them a little less stable. Our MCs sit low on the bunker trailers we have so it's not necessary. But gives peace of mind like you said.
Anyway, I thought this was a "stereo" thread... ERK, my 3rd and 4th speakers (in my '90 PS 190) are on the side panels in the back, basically the same installation as the front speakers. It was an easy installation. Cutting the holes was the hardest part, mentally and physically. Not sure if your boat is similar -- probably not or I guess you would have thought of it...

If you wouldn't mind snapping a pic that would be awesome. I will get the shots of the rear of my boat tonight.

Isn't the "Union Standard" to take your time and charge more than the job is worth. Should be right up erk's alley..... :toast:

Not only take your time but break every 15 minutes. I can see why it would take 2 hours.

Is there a ski locker in the back? Can you make cutouts under your back seat in the carpet and mount them facing forward? Another suggestion is to fabricate a couple of speaker boxes and mount them under the rear seat...

How about like this? You will have to box in behind it.
