*****Update June 21st, 2011*****

Ok, people can read below but I am moving my tower and I made a quick photoshop, it was my first time using photoshop so don't laugh. Also the picture wasn't taken directly from the side so it's not 100% but in my opinion, it looks much better at the new spot, no?

Hi everyone, i have a dilema, i have a 99 PS 205 Sammy and i put a Roswell Area 51 tower on it last year, i did my best to make it look good but it doesn't.

Here's what it looks like:

http://s37.photobucket.com/albums/e51/GTPJAY/IMG_0547.jpg

what i don't like is the swoop and positioning, problem is I need to really mount the tower between the front vents but it cannot get that narrow

my options:

1-modify the tower, have it cut/welded to custom fit the boat, including filling the old holes. Cost of this is unknown, maybe $1500 max?

2-buy a tower from a 07+ X1, cost 5k, looks are so sweet, strong factory tower. still need to fill old holes.

would look like this below, notice it mounts between the vents and has nice swoop.

http://media.channelblade.com/boat_graphics/dealers/3081/digi26000714.jpg

what would you do?

also, the ND tower, to me, is ugly because it doesn't swoop, so thats not an option.

thanks!

Have you looked at bigairpylons.com? I have the vapor tower on my 96' 205 and love it. Fairly easy to install and I got the tower, racks and bimini for 1500. My boat is one of the boats in the installed section.

Tower looks fine, keep it & buy beer & gas with the $1500 - $5000 you're looking to drop.

Tower doesn't look bad. I kind of like the way the front legs follow the lines of the windshield seam from the side view. It may simply take some time for you to get used to the looks.

I don't think that's a bad looking tower at all. I have seen way worse. I do agree that mounting it more forward would look better. But still, not a bad tower.

Regardless of what you do, it wont look $1500 better. Be happy with it and get yourself $1500 worth of fun out of your boat.

I think it looks great! Just add some racks, lights, and speakers and it will really change the look. Definitely not worth the time or money to change it, IMHO.

I agree with nickespi, add some racks, lights and speakers. The tower looks good and Roswell makes some quality components.

see if you can add a bimini inside of it, thatr could help make it look better. I think it looks sweet!

Tower looks fine to me. I wouldn't remove it, I'd just add a bimini and perhaps some speakers with the 1500-5K you're looking at dropping.

Ditto, options on that tower will change the look. Bare towers (no speakers) always look a bit funny to me. You should try to get the ZF5 (?) bimini instead of your average bimini....those are sweet!

I like it too but I do agree get a Bimini and some speakers up there and I brt it will look better but it def doesn't look bad at all!

I think it looks good. Solid. Add some bling (speakers, bimini, etc.) and you're good to go. It looks like you could get a 7-footer under that thing. Height should lift a boarder right up, no problem.

roswell bimini's look solid.

Thanks everyone, you all sound like my wife!! lol

But you are right, it won't look $1500-$5000 better.

I have board racks now, speakers are on order and I am waiting on the bimini quote.

I will post pics when I am done all that :)

remove the tower and trade it for a nice slalom ski

remove the tower and trade it for a nice slalom ski

Funny you should say that! I was pricing some skis out yesterday, I figure the boat is supposed to be killer for Slalom so I might as well try it.

I'm an Advanced/Expert "snow" skier, my ideal day of skiing is ripping carving turns on groomed runs as fast as I possibly can, so I imagine I'll like Slalom on water.

I own a 93 205 and the only thing i dont like about it is the 22' off bump. everything else is awesome... wouldnt trade it for a newer model and when I get the itch to do anything outside of slalom or trick, i use someone else's boat :)

*****Update*****

Ok, people can read the original thread but I decided to keep the Roswell tower and I am moving my tower so I made a quick photoshop, it was my first time using photoshop so don't laugh. Also the picture wasn't taken directly from the side so it's not 100% but in my opinion, it looks much better at the new spot, no?

Also, I bought tower light, speakers, tower mirror, a bimini and I have the racks so I think that will help.

Honest opinion, I’d remove it altogether. However, if I had to choose, it looks better in the lower pic... It is more flush with the windshield. PLUS, I think its less functional for you – there’s less room for getting in/out, loading or unloading equipment from the sides of the boat. You’ve lost at least a foot there.

Plus, I have no clue about this, but would the strength/pull/angle/height/skiability or any other functionality be affected by moving it back?

I think my photoshop skills might be why it looks "lower" in the second pic. But that first pic is how I have it now and it looks dumb.

Especially when I put the bimini on the tower, in the original position the front of the bimini would be a foot behind my head, kinda defeats the purpose i think.

I would have spent the money to put the right tower on it to begin with instead of cutting corners. You get what you pay for in my opinion. I at this point would just leave it alone. You won't be happy with what you do and you'll definately be unhappy try to upgrade to the new tower... price of tower, accessories, fiberglass work, etc.. you'll be way to deep into that investment.

if you think it wont hamper it functionally, I like it better moves forward.

I would think however the closer the tower centers to the engine, the better stronger pull you'd get.

Well, the wife wouldn't have let me spend 5k on the 07+ tower anyways, and the New Dimension is ugly, so this is my only choice. In the end it will look good.

I don't think moving it more forward will hurt as that is where most factory towers are, especially if you look at the new dimension for the 99 PS 205 the tow point is pretty much above the driver.

I think it looks 100% better moved forward.

Here is an actual picture (not photoshoped) of the tower in the forward position. The rear is mounted but I ran out of daylight to drill the holes for the front mounts but this is it. The front bars are not 100% at the angle I want them to be, but they are close enough.

The 1st thing I noticed in this position, getting in and out of the boat is awesome, there's no longer a tower bar in the way there so that's going to be awesome.

Supposed to rain for the next few days so hopefully there will be some spurts of no rain so I can finish.

P.S. I was pretty darn close with my photoshop, not bad for a first timer :)

I'm just kicking myself for not putting it there in the first place :( Oh well.
