Would appreciate any comments regarding the slalom wake behind the current PS209. Just looked at a left over 04 SD PS209 this afternoon, love the boat but am concerned the slalom wakes leave a lot to be desired. Dealer won't let me test drive till we work a deal contingent upon the test drive.
I'm skiing 34mph at 28' and 32' off, wife skis at 30mph and 15' off. Current ride is a 2001 Malibu Sunsetter LXi.
Thanks in advance...

Hey Edwin
You’ll get some responses from some 209 owners for sure but I don’t see them on tonight. I hear the wakes are suitable for slalom skiing but I think the 197 would be better.
If you’re 01 Sunsetter skis like my neighbors 99 it’s going to be a tough act to follow, for a bigger boat! I can understand the dealer not wanting to put hours on the left over, but do they know of another 209 you could ski behind? Nice you can find a new 04 without the DBW everybody is having trouble with http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?threadid=4024. I guy I ski with has an 05 197 w/310 hp that he had to take the dealer today(2 hours each way) bc it wouldn’t start.

Tnx guys...I realize the 197 will ski better, but I've got the family along 95% of the time once the weather warms. I've never felt my Malibu has the fit and finish that my PS190 had...that said, it skis very well for a 21'8" boat.
I do have a friend who has an 03 PS209 that I'll try to arrange for a ride/ ski to see. Hate to waste the time pounding out a deal to find out the 209 isn't to our liking...or, might be willing to buck up a bit more if it's "the" perfect boat.

edwin....i have the x9......i dont slalom much,,and when i do its normally "free skiing"...i find the wake ok,,,,but a few friends of mine who are good slalomers dont like it as much as the 197/x7,,they say it has a double hump? in the middle....i dont notice it as much if i am footin' out back.......
i must say tho'...it is a great family boat...good for everything..
but..you gotta try before you buy

if you are skiing those speeds and line lengths on the course, you will not like this boat guaranteed. if you a open water skier yo will be fine.

I have a left over 03 PS209 that I bought last year. Your wife will have the biggest adjustment to make to the wakes. They are a little bigger, but wider apart. At your speed and line length it is not so bad.

Thanks rodltg2...while I don't get to the course nearly as often as I'd like, I cleared 5 at 32' off last visit. 35' off is just round the corner. Selling the wife on a downgrade in wake is gonna be tough.
Truly appreciate the input...

I have a 04 PS 209. I'll post some pics tonight as I have to get to work right now. I'll tell at 15' off there is a bit of a bump. Great family boat though............lots of rooms for family and all your equipment. :wavey:

Edwin, the dealer won't let you test drive until you sign on the dotted line conditioned on the test drive? I'd tell them test drive or you're walking. That's crap. My dealer tried the same thing. I let them run my credit for financing, but once they understood I'd come to play, we took that boat out for a spin. Don't let them pull that!

Second that Sizzler. I have slalomed behind my buddy's X-9. Nice A$$ boat... but I am use to my wake (or lack there of :D ) behind my old school '86. :toast:
Find another dealer. The one I deal with will pull boats in and out all day long to see which one a person would like the best. If you are treated that way before the sale, I feal sorry for you after.
