Crap, that's what I have. I mean the power tower, not all the dudes. I have not got my bimini yet. crap.... it needs to come forward a good foot, maybe more.

Looks like it will do an excellent job of shading the sundeck... Wait that would be counter productive...

Wow, tough crowd. I think it looks badass. Pretty much looks like it shades the whole lounge. What were guys hoping for?

if you look at the photo or for at least those that have a power tower, the tower is in the mid down position. The bimini is supposed to be design such that it stays parallel with the boat through it's range or motion. As such, the front of the bimini will move toward the rear as the tower goes down.

the tower looks fully "up" to me. at least that's what ours looks like in the up position.

with ours I can still walk under it when fully extended from the platform. At this height they would hit their head.

I assume the mirror has to be attached to the windshield. I thought I heard something about a possible bracket from the tower.

ddanenberger

no tower mount. mounts to the windshield. I use the camera thru the BIG instead.

Do you have the factory camera or aftermarket? I opted to get an GoProHD. The main reason was the factory added 2.5" to the height and that was going to hit the garage door.

ddanenberger

factory... you are right, you need 99" clear to get in a garage with the tower down and a camera.

I know you all did not ask me but thought I would add my 2 cents. I did not get the camera, figured we would use it a couple times, then not care. GoPro was a better option, plus we could take it other places. We did however get the navigation in the BIG. Seems to work fairly well, have not had it to Powell, only local lake in Utah. Seems like it has pretty good detail on the map and depths for lakes. Its nice to have at night at Lake Powell, can get tricky in the evenings, canyons all look the same at night I guess. We also got the rear LED light bar, very, VERY bright. Did not get the side front facing LED.

What mount did you use for the GoPro? Did you hard wire it into the BIG? If so what all cables did you have to have?
I wonder if you have to have a spotter w/o a mirror or will the display be sufficient?

We have not bought it yet, that is on the list to do. No clue how to do it yet. I think the wiring is alriday there for the camera, according to the dealership they said adding the camera at a later date was not a huge deal. I am the last person you want running wiring, screwing, or working on your boat. So if it ain't easy to do, I will most likley just use the GoPro and download onto the USB port, or have my 10 year old figure it out.

I heard that MasterCraft has re-designed and re-designed again the top for the electric tower. At least that what I was told by the Mastercraft dealer in Salt Lake City.

they story I got was that the original design was not up to par. Marketing was not happy with the appearence. I think Taylor Made was the vender, but not sure. The current top is being made by Gere. I spoke with Jim at the Chicago boat show and he went through the details of their version and the goals. Our came in last week and is supposed to be installed this week.

That picture is the reason why official photos did not show towers with biminis on them. That's not very attractive and the driver doesn't get any shade with that tower. :(

Wow must be a crap ton of weight in the front of that star.

jakethebt
05-05-2011, 07:25 PM
It did not get any better with that photo. The entire tower looks like something from a transformers movie. I can not believe that was the simplest way to design and build a power folding tower. The bimini looks like one of those gag baseball hats with a 12" bill...

Lets see that bimini with the tower down, do you have to crawl over the top of it to get out?

Be afraid of a large roller coming over the bow in that boat.

Don't let Prambold operate that Star. It would be on the bottom of the lake for sure. :D

Why all the hate? If the driver wants shade, keep the bow pointed west during the morning and east in the afternoon and wear a hat with lots of sunscreen from 11am till 1pm - problem solved.

I saw that boat at the reunion. Zane has a sweet rig for sure. the bimini does not look bad in person, BUT it could be a little bit forward for my taste. Still a great looking Star.
