Don't kill me... but since my 2006 x30, I had a 2008 x45, 2010 x45 and now 2011 x45... (the x30 was my first MC), and I think the 45 is a lot better! especially the wake for wakeboarding...

Don't do surf tabs. I've done more then enough reading to know they will only shape the wake that you have, not make more.

I've got a thread going just for making a better surf wake out of 30s. I'll keep adding my stuff there. Hopefully some of my fellow 30s can use it.

Ok, I'll add my X-30 to the mix.

It's a 2002 X-30 with the L-18 engine, 2005 tower and 3,000 lbs of water for boarding and surfing. Now, you know why I have the L-18 engine.

ShamrockIV - Are you referring to my '02 with the '05 tower? The tower was put on at the factory. The holes for the rear feet did not line up at all so I had to have them filled. You literally can not tell where the patch is. The front holes lined up so no glass work was required.

To me, it looks like they used the rear of the new Xstar and attached a traditional bow. I like it, but have heard several people complaining about the "hips". I have also heard several people complain about the pre 06 X30. Most seems to be poor turning and handling. What do you guys think, and what has been your experience with the older X30 hulls?

05 - 06 was a complete redesign of the 30. They are two completely different boats. I don't think there is a BIG change in the handling but I've not driven any pre 06 X30s. Where I see the largest difference is in the wake, both board and a to greater degree, surf. There is a great degree of change in the boat's interior too. That said, I believe the 2012 X30 is pretty similar to the +06s in the interior but there do seem to be some major changes in the hull. Until someone does some weighting of the boat we really wont know if the surf wake is competition size/style. I do look forward to seeing what can be done with the new boat.

My biggest let down, and this just might be marketing, is they still talk about a ski wake. I don't understand why they would even consider the ski wake with this design. No one is buying an X30 for skiing. If there is any water skiing going on this boat it's doubles or semi long line slalom. Where the effort should have been is to make a great wake board wake and a killer surf wake and do those at the expense of any ski wake.

Time will tell what this 30 has to offer. Hopefully we will all be impressed with what it can do.

rkhodges21
03-02-2012, 04:27 PM
I don't own a boat yet (other than a 14' 18hp jonboat) and I have never been successful skiing, and while I would like to become a decent skier, wakeboarding and surfing is much more fun to me, so I will have to agree with you on that one. If you want a versatile boat, that is what the 14V is for. Isn't a 23 footer just too much of a boat for skiing?

I had an 03 X30- it did not handle well but that problem was easily remedied with a new rudder, the same rudder that came on the 06+. It was a night and day difference.

It was like going from a car without power steering to a care with power steering.

Another person that backs their X-30 into the slip...I like it. I set our lift up the same way. At first it's annoying but the benefits outweigh the cons.

yeah, I go in forward Specter. backing in would be challenging LOL

If I had to back my MC into a lift like that, I'd be replacing the rubrail and patching gelcoat every winter. I'm getting a bit better but it's still not the easiest thing to do.
Double - like your x30. I'm still not a fan of the "hips" as everyone is calling them, yet they're still nice-looking boats.

I looked at the picture wrong. Backing sucked at first but it gets easier each time you do it. Sun hits our dock so backing in keeps the transom from getting oxidized.

Congrates!

My x30 came with the tribal graphics which I took off and was going to update.... after taking the stickers off I ended up not buying anything because I fell in love with the clean look. In short take it off and look at it before you buy something. You may like it.

You may like it and not have to spend $ on decals... More money for speakers etc...

I still have the smaller "mastercraft" as you have also.

Can you guys direct me in a starter surf set up. I have a 2006 X30 and a CWB ride board. The only ballasts I have are the internal floor ballast supplied with the boat.

What extra ballast should I buy and where should I locate them.

Thanks!

Here is a good thread to start with.

http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=60738

I pulled my hard ballasts (ironically what I thought was a feature when choosing the boat) and put in 750's. I have an ibs for the front but it was defective and sent back. Hoping to get that back today in time for the weekend and start dialling it in by moving my boys around the boat to see where more wieght is needed from there. If I can get a decent wave then I will post some pics up next week.

I left my hard tanks and just added a 750 fly high in each rear locker. I installed the piggyback system from wakemakers.com. I fill the KGB and the factory ballast on whichever side I'm surfing on, plus the 750 on top. Then i throw a 400 on the seat and another 400 under the bow cushion. It's only 1550 lbs of extra ballast on top of factory, but my wife and i have a killer time surfing even just the two of us.

I'll try to dig some out - it looked like the one dduenkel posted on page 12 of this thread - except my 'X30' was in black

My wife liked an '08 X2 we saw, but I wanted the X30 - so the compromise was to change the graphics & speaker grills and she's happy.

We've been out twice and tomorrow makes 3. Definitely not the best boating week but I'm too impatient and summer is waning.

We took delivery on Monday in sketchy weather at Deer Creek. That's the dealer and my cousin (I was parking the truck) before the storm of the century hit. There wasn't a dry spot on us or the boat by the time we were done.

This is from Wednesday, notice I wore a matching shirt (by accident).

Very happy so far with the move from the older X30. Right now we're using stock Gen2 ballast which in many cases is enough but it could use a little more weight. Have 750lb bags at the dealer waiting for connectors so that should help. The old boat had a bit better wave compared to stock Gen2 but that required 3000 lbs and a lot of list. I miss the 8.1L but the 6.0 has done everything we've asked it to.

Thanks medross. I wasn't sold on the windshield at first but got it because it was different and new. Already after 3 trips I like how easy it is to see/talk with someone in the water. Today I even found myself hop onto the dock straight from the driver's seat. I don't normally have a need for fenders but that'd be another plus.

On a different note, I was looking at you Powell pics... sure like your red X30. We're heading down in 3 weeks, can't wait.

Thanks, I think it was harder picking boat colors than when we built our house. Soooooo many options and combinations. We started with 3 or 4 favorites and slowly narrowed it down.
