Don't kill me... but since my 2006 x30, I had a 2008 x45, 2010 x45 and now 2011 x45... (the x30 was my first MC), and I think the 45 is a lot better! especially the wake for wakeboarding...

Don't do surf tabs. I've done more then enough reading to know they will only shape the wake that you have, not make more.

I've got a thread going just for making a better surf wake out of 30s. I'll keep adding my stuff there. Hopefully some of my fellow 30s can use it.

Ok, I'll add my X-30 to the mix.

It's a 2002 X-30 with the L-18 engine, 2005 tower and 3,000 lbs of water for boarding and surfing. Now, you know why I have the L-18 engine.

ShamrockIV - Are you referring to my '02 with the '05 tower? The tower was put on at the factory. The holes for the rear feet did not line up at all so I had to have them filled. You literally can not tell where the patch is. The front holes lined up so no glass work was required.

To me, it looks like they used the rear of the new Xstar and attached a traditional bow. I like it, but have heard several people complaining about the "hips". I have also heard several people complain about the pre 06 X30. Most seems to be poor turning and handling. What do you guys think, and what has been your experience with the older X30 hulls?

05 - 06 was a complete redesign of the 30. They are two completely different boats. I don't think there is a BIG change in the handling but I've not driven any pre 06 X30s. Where I see the largest difference is in the wake, both board and a to greater degree, surf. There is a great degree of change in the boat's interior too. That said, I believe the 2012 X30 is pretty similar to the +06s in the interior but there do seem to be some major changes in the hull. Until someone does some weighting of the boat we really wont know if the surf wake is competition size/style. I do look forward to seeing what can be done with the new boat.

My biggest let down, and this just might be marketing, is they still talk about a ski wake. I don't understand why they would even consider the ski wake with this design. No one is buying an X30 for skiing. If there is any water skiing going on this boat it's doubles or semi long line slalom. Where the effort should have been is to make a great wake board wake and a killer surf wake and do those at the expense of any ski wake.

Time will tell what this 30 has to offer. Hopefully we will all be impressed with what it can do.

rkhodges21
03-02-2012, 04:27 PM
I don't own a boat yet (other than a 14' 18hp jonboat) and I have never been successful skiing, and while I would like to become a decent skier, wakeboarding and surfing is much more fun to me, so I will have to agree with you on that one. If you want a versatile boat, that is what the 14V is for. Isn't a 23 footer just too much of a boat for skiing?

I had an 03 X30- it did not handle well but that problem was easily remedied with a new rudder, the same rudder that came on the 06+. It was a night and day difference.

It was like going from a car without power steering to a care with power steering.

Another person that backs their X-30 into the slip...I like it. I set our lift up the same way. At first it's annoying but the benefits outweigh the cons.

yeah, I go in forward Specter. backing in would be challenging LOL

If I had to back my MC into a lift like that, I'd be replacing the rubrail and patching gelcoat every winter. I'm getting a bit better but it's still not the easiest thing to do.
Double - like your x30. I'm still not a fan of the "hips" as everyone is calling them, yet they're still nice-looking boats.

I looked at the picture wrong. Backing sucked at first but it gets easier each time you do it. Sun hits our dock so backing in keeps the transom from getting oxidized.

KahunaCraft, where abouts are you located? I was eyeing up that x30 at Lens Cove, just picked up my x2 before Labour Day weekend from them

New to me 2004 230 VRS with a factory X-package...The "hips"on the newest model have grown on me...starting to like them. makes the boat look beefier, meaner, ready to launch a 6' surf wake behind it...Oh well, I like our update just fine...Have plans for newer graphics, stereo, and rudder & strut

Congrates!

My x30 came with the tribal graphics which I took off and was going to update.... after taking the stickers off I ended up not buying anything because I fell in love with the clean look. In short take it off and look at it before you buy something. You may like it.

You may like it and not have to spend $ on decals... More money for speakers etc...

I still have the smaller "mastercraft" as you have also.

Pumping some life into this thread since so many appear to be taking delivery of X-30's this season.
