Ken
10-04-2011, 12:51 AM
BrianT, you've uncovered my winter project. Just a white sticker over the holes on the side for now. Had a plate made by my nephew to adapt the front mounting locations to the new tower but the sides will require a little more work. Was thinking about glassing a blank plate behind the holes and then filling with some fiberglass filler and topping off with some gel coat patch. Open to any other ideas on best way to get this done. Thanks.

Really appreciate all the nice comments about my "plain Jane" '05!

For years prior to purchasing my MC, I planned to have a custom 3/4 wrap applied immediately after buying boat. When I found this 05, I knew the clean lines void of decals was an instant classic for us.

StrmChzr, your boat shows the innate beauty of the hull. It doesn't need extra flash to look good. Of course I've got nothing against extra flash (refer to my boat).

I think the black hull really enhances the lines too. Well done!

^^Very nice, love the silver flake. Let's see some pics without the cover.

MCX is fine unless you're in high elevation. What prop is on it? I run a 14.25 X 14.5 OJ and it pulls fine. (2) 720# sacs in rear, full KGB and 750# in front walkway. I don't use the rear hard tanks at all. 6 passengers and it's fine, anything more and it will make that engine work extra hard but will still get up and go.
Looks like you're in CT, what lake?

jradasaurus
12-01-2013, 07:53 PM
Same prop, elevation here is ~200ft. I bought the ballast upgrade system, then promptly tore my ACL 1 week after delivery  So I haven't had the chance to install/test it out slammed and my star has since become a wakesurfing and beer drinking machine (thats me in the back).

I read people don't use the rear hard tanks and I can never figure out why.. whats the reason?

Lake Lillinonah and sometimes Candlewood if I'm looking for some chop/ocean conditions.

Haven't heard that one. There are no "rear hard tanks". All 3 are centrally located and I fill them all for what it's worth. It's really only starting ballast. You need more to get a good wake. I run an extra 1000# for boarding (I'm a novice) and an extra 2000# for surf.

Good luck with your ACL. I recommend a repair if you haven't already done one. The rehab is a pain but it's worth it.

BTW, did someone change the hull graphic? Looks like it's from a 2007.

My parents live in Paris and my cousin has a house across from Port road boat ramp. That's where we put in when we go to Paris. I live in Union City. We go somewhere every single weekend April through October. Paris, pump house, washout, Blood river, Huntingdon, Beech Lake. We just got this boat. You might have seen us at Paris in my Malibu Wakesetter. Nice to hear from someone close by.

I bought an 09 in September, added 750s to the rear. I fill all the ballast tanks. Only got to use it a few times (kids back in school). Factory wake was disappointing, thought my 03 X2 was better. After 750s, it was like I expected.

Mine has the MCX and not any trouble getting out of the hole. It had the 15.75x15.0 on it originally. It was too slow for cruising (at 25mph 4000+ rpms empty). I changed to the acme 14.5x14.25. That helped speed a lot, hole shot a little slower but very tolerable.

I think the MCX will be fine. When I was looking it seemed like most of the 8.1s were recently rebuilt. So that scared me away.

I've heard on multiple accounts people don't use the "rear" tanks, which are really center like you said... but idk why. Yes I know you need more weight but why not start with the hard tanks.

And re: ACL, yep I went with a cadaver replacement. Surgery was 3 months ago and I'm feeling great.

Nice boat. Is that an aluminum trailer?
Yep EZ-loader aluminum. Its beefier than the MC trailers in my opinion, but not as nice looking.

....

Yes I read about that on a few occasions as well. Research really does help, at first I wanted an 2010 with the BIG system but then I found how it's riddled with problems so I ended up avoiding that.

There was a boat on my lake last year that had the ZFT4 in black. It was on what looked like an older hull though not the newer lines.. Was not a pickle.. But decently long maybe an older X30?? Either way it was all debadged etc. Considering that Gere Marie is in my backyard no telling what they were up to.
