so im done with the replacing of my heads on my 91 pro star, but i need to adjust the timing. The book says 10 degrees BTDC @ 600rpm but another book says 6 degrees if you have a tan distributer and 10 if you have a black one? Also i marked the distributer before i took it out but it was difficult to pull... when i went to reinstall it i noticed it seemed like the gears lined up but i was one flat off where the stem of the distributer goes over the nut shaped thing inside the block?
Thank a lot every one.
I hope you all are skiing by now, its warming up!!!!

lining up the distributor is always fun! I would pull it back out and spin the rotor more to achieve the proper alignment you had marked. If the motor turned over during the head removal you will need to start at top dead center on the no. 1 cylinder.

As far as the 6-10* if the boat hesitates at 6* going to WOT give it some more timing
