I have a friend that is looking to move from a runabout (baja) to a Mastercraft. He loves the layout of my 2006 X2 but we cant find one of those for less than 45K near us that will do a trade for his 1997 baja. We found this 2004 XStar

2004 XSTAR (http://www.marineworld.com/pre_owned_detail.asp?sid=01776544X4K29K2011J5I46I4 5JPMQ4123R0&veh=2077993)

Its in pretty good shape except for the interior, typical cracking etc of that year due to the thin fabric used. In my opinion it will need a total skin replacement. Just wanting some opinions on price, shape etc. of this particular boat and any experience with this particular year and model of Xstar.

Thanks!

Good looking boat. Is that their bottom line on the price?

Not sure, haven't stepped to the plate yet on the deal. Thought id ask questions here and get opinions first.

Looks like a nice boat. I would start dealing and see if you can get them to put new interior in.

Demolition we talked to them about that and they are probably willing to do that but may be able to get a better deal on our own. Wonder what one would expect to
Pay to re-skin the whole interior?

2005 skins are still available for only one more month and they should be a good match.

2004 X-stars do not have throttle by wire, swivel board racks or JL speakers. The stock prop is a 13.7 X 17 which is not enough prop for that MCX. Check the brake calipers on the trailer....you may need to update it with Kodiak calipers.

Looks like a nice boat, but if it needs interior work (skins) that price is too high. Just my $.02

Thanks Dave. Who would I inquire with to get skins for it, and any guesstimate on what they might cost??
Also, it actually does have JL speakers throughout, with an extra subwoofer and amp as well. No swivel racks as you mentioned, although from the side it looks like the racks are about even with the side of the boat from a width standpoint so maybe with a slip that isnt an issue?
I agree on the prop, need to see what it has and work a trade if its the 13.7 x 17.

Thanks,
Jake

you have to figure around 3,500 for mastercraft skins. i just bought an 06 in november. i wouldnt want more than 40 tied up in it, total with skins, prop, etc. from the pics, it does look like a nice boat, minus tlc...

Thanks scott. So if you order skins do they come in and you have to have an upholstery shop install or what? Seems you could go to an upholstery shop and have them recover things for cheaper?

You can defiantly get it done cheaper after market. You can prob pit them on yourself, I'm just not that talented..

I just ordered my skins from Jim@BAWS in florida 813-996-2297
I am only replacing 4 of mine so call him with what you need and he'll price it for you.
The boat looks good as is for between $35K-$38K in my opinion as long as it's mechanically sound.

I just had my 2002 Xstar upholstery re - done by a local guy for $1900. It was everything but the bow seats, which were still ok. He did a great job. Everything looks right, except no logos. I think I'm with Dave on the price, though. $40K+ seems like a lot for that one.

I would like to think we could get the boat for less but the market is bringing 40k minimum for these in similar condition. I have found none below 40k unless they did not have the MCX engine or had been rebuilt etc? Can always try though!

Try this link - you can hunt both Craigslist and Ebay at the same time.

I don't know if it's still for sale, but there was a low hr 07 X15, MCX, black hull white deck and tub, LOADED, 150hrs, asking $45k on CL nevada. The boat is for real, as I looked at it pretty hard when the prev owner sold it 2 years ago. It was like new then.
