What's the shelf life of hard liquor after the bottle has been opened?

I have some 1/2 full bottles of rum, whiskey and tequila that are 2 years old! Man, I have to throw more parties! :D

With the alcohol content of those, you should be fine. The only ones I would worry about would be those that are high in sugar content and lower in alcohol, i.e. schnapps and flavored liquors.

CP hit it dead on. Whiskey, vodka, gin, tequila, rum, scotch are all fine for a few years after being opened. Toss the kahlua, baileys, midori or any of the ones with more sugar/ less alcohol.

How would you know? I know you've never had a bottle around for any length of time.:D

Not true...after one certain event I couldn't bring myself to drain the Milagro bottle. :D

FWIW I couldn't believe how many bottles of booze I had to toss when I recently moved. None of the staples, but a bunch of stuff. Probably 30 bottles or so.

On a similar note I do a lot of work favors for one of my father's friends who is older and doesn't drink. Since I do drink he brings me a few bottles a year to say thanks. They are all 30 + years old with the old fashioned seal over the top with the date. 1970's...all of them. Unopened they are all fine. Some Galliaono, some canadian whiskeys, a sambuca, etc.

Never goes bad. Indiana is dry on Sunday, no sales. If it is Monday and you throw it away you will soon realize nothing is expired on Sunday. Put it on a different shelf.
