It would be cool if we all combined our knowledge of MC boats and put them in one place for all to reference. Let's focus this one on the Prostar/Skier series boats. List what you know about the hull design and changes from prior years and how it skis

I have a question...Mine is a 2001 ProStar 195 according to the stamped V.I.N. in the hull, but I see other 2001's with a different hull design and improved rear ski locker design where the rope can't get under the lids. What gives??? Was there a mid year design change? The later (I guess) 2001's seem to have a more swooped hull and mine is blockier...

The original boats were orange (wake me when you get to the 90s).

I'm sorry, but that was the most blatant threadjack ever! Kudos.

I wasn't saying anything bad about 70s boats. I just don't know anything about them and it looked like the thread was going by decade.

By the way, I think MC owns the originals. One was pictured in the 03 WSM Boat Buyers' Guide.

Was thinking the same thing!!!

To keep the thread going, whats the difference in hull design between the 81-86 hull as compared to the 87-90 hull, the 91-94 hull.

I don't speak from experience, but from what I've read, each year, you get a bit more interior room, a slightly flatter/softer wake, about a line lenth less spray per change. To be honest, from looking at the pictures, the differences in wake characteristics amount to picking gnat sh\t out of pepper.

I see very little spray on the toob...

Somewhere on here is a good thread where we discussed the changes of the Skier/Prostar 190 over the years, I can't find it now.
If I remember, it even had a photo of the orginal 68, but it probobly disappeared with along with alot of the other photos that were on here.....

OK, maybe boat history isn't that strong here, but it would be great to read! Should be someone at MC that could write an interesting documentary, or maybe already has???

Your 2001 195 is actually a modified (open bow) version of the 95-97 Prostar hull. The other 2001 Prostar 190s you see are on the 1st year EVO hull which is completely different.

Don't know the exact differences but I think the hull was the same 81-85 with a change in 86-90 but the 86 still used the 81-85 deck while 87-90 used the new deck. Making 86 kind of a transition year. Hull changed again for 91-94. Anyone at MC care to confirm this?

It all began in 1968...

My father owned the original 1968 mastercraft. It was the first boat I ever drove and learned how to ski behind. He traded it back to the factory in 1987 for a PS 190. At the time I thought that was so cool to get a new boat, but I wish he still had the original. I'll scan some pictures and post them.

I didn't see the picture somebody posted before I replied with my comment. That sure looks like the boat. That one has a different interior than when my dad sold it back and it is on a different trailer, but other than that it looks the same.

Yeah Wow... Now you could probably trade it for a nice lakehouse! What do you think something like that would be worth? I guess whatever someone is willing to pay, right?

I know that in 1968 my dad paid $3500 for the boat and in 1987 MC Traded him the boat for a new 190. My dad was very happy with the deal.

A history thread?

Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't beleive it.

Any questions?
