I'm getting ready to change the engine and transmission oil, went to three local auto parts stores and nobody had any brand of 15w40. I usually run mobil 1 synthetic, but just wondering if there is a reason why no one is carrying anymore and if anybody is subbing with a different weight oil. Engine is 2003 RTP, transmission is power slot.... thanks.

I use 15w-50 Mobil1

I used 15w40 Royal Purple in my MCX and 15w40 Mobil Delvac in the tranny. Napa should keep it in stock. I also talked to my local MC dealer and they used 15w50 Mobil1 since the 15w40 is hard to find.

Walmart should carry Mobil Delvac 15 -40W and Shell Rotella T 15-40W.

I usually use Penzoil 15-40W and get it at Autozone.

I use Amsoil synthetic 15-40 deisel/marine...in both the engine and the tranny

I picked up Rotella over the weekend.

Another question....what oil filter is everyone using on their MCX?

Napa/Wix gold 1069.

You can use the 1069, but a little trick that mattscraft taught me was you can also use the 1060, which is longer and gives you more filtering. Pretty sure i had a 1069 on there before, 1060 went on without a problem in november during winterization.

I also go to AutoZone and if they dont have will special order it in for me ... along with a K&N oil filter

I'm a die-hard Castrol guy. They have it standard at my local auto parts store. I was also pleased to hear my MC dealer say they replace the Penzoil 15W40 with Castrol. :)

only 15w40 I could find in town was synthetic royal purple. Planning to use for engine and tranny, any issues with using this in the tranny?

At any point, would it hurt to change to synthetic oil. Just got boat, 430 hrs on it. Will it hurt to change this late in the game???

Apparently 100 hours is the magic number where you can switch to synthetic according to Indmar FAQ. This allows the rings and bearing to seat nice before the switch to synthetic.

"Indmar recommends (and uses at our factory) Pennzoil Marine 15W40 Motor Oil. If Pennzoil 15W40 Marine Oil is not available in your area, we suggest using 20W40 or 20W50 oil meeting the API specification of SJ/CG4 or better.

Synthetic oil that meets our requirement of 15W40and API rating of SJ/CJ4 is acceptable to use after 100 hours or operation with the recommended (not synthetic) oil. The use of synthetic oil does not alter the requirement for oil changes at 50-hour intervals."

I use Royal Purple 15/40 and the K&N HP-3002 filter. I switched to synthetic at 275 hours.

FWIW, when I bought my '08, I was told by Joe at MCOC that if I can't find 15/40 (I did) it's fine to use 10/40.

How about the Royal Purple synthetic in the transmission? I am going to be changing it in the next couple hours... would really like to feel warm and fuzzy about it... thoughts???
