OK guys and gals, I need your help. My wife and I recently purchased a 2002 X30 with the L-18 engine. Our past 2 boats have been a 1988 PS190 and a 1995 PS205. Both of us wanted the extra room that the V-drive gives. Also, we love the power of the L-18 engine. Now, my problem: this boat's wake is absolutely horrible for waterskiing. Yeah, I know before anyone says anything, I know we bought a wakeboard boat that is 1,400 lbs heavier than our PS205 and the engine in located in the back of the boat. I never thought the X30 would have the same wake as the PS205, but I also never thought it would be as big as it is.
So, my question is: Is MasterCraft going to make a V-drive that is geared more towards waterskiing? I hate to say this, but I have been looking at the Malibu Sunscape 23 LSV with the V25 Diamond Hull which is designed (according to the sales guy at Malibu) towards waterskiing and can be outfitting with a tower and ballast tanks, like their Wakesetter boats. I really like my boat, I love the lines, the colors, everything except the wake for skiing.
Any info or thoughts that people have would be much appreciated.

From previous threads on the subjectI think the answer is 205V or X2.

I think you're right Doug. The X-2 is basically the 205 hull.

Don't forget the X2 is soon to be the X1 for MY06.

Looking at mastercraft.. you might be outta luck here.
The Maristar 230, and the X30 are the exact same boat weight wise, as they are listed.. but the hull and everything is probably the exact same.
Malibu is coming out with a new bigger boat.. i think its the 25 LSV.. its a big one.

I have heard great things about the slalom wake behind a 205V.

The X2 / 205V maybe a little small now that the wife has got a taste of the X30 size. It does work great for the kids and their friends. I am also looking at installing a trim tab between the exhaust ports. I am waiting for some other people on this board to do the install and report their finds.

I'm not afraid of drilling, just don't want to spend money on something if it doesn't perform.

Does the Vdrive mean that the engine is in the back instead of the middle?

Thats correct.
I think if i am correct it is called a v drive because the shaft goes towards the front of the boat and then down making a V where as the direct drive is one shaft going down.

Didn't someone (Jim@BAWS) say that the 205V hull is the same hull or based off the '93 190?

So basically Prostar205 wants a good slalom MC, but it can't have the engine in the middle?

No, the 205V hull is the 205 hull from 96-?? with the v-drive configuration. Jim said it had "old school wakes," which he described as, if I recall, narrow and slightly tall. The 96 and up 205s loosely resemble the 95-97 190s, but are a bit different in wake characteristics.

look at the thread called Maristar 210 trim tab. Seems that Gregg is going to take the plunge and install a tab on his 210 and then hopefully let everyone know how it works.

Yes, I am monitoring Greg's actions closely. It would be great if a $500 trim tab would flatten out my wake enough to be tolerable for skiing. I am not looking to have the same wake as I had in my '95 PS205 - it would be nice but physically impossible IMO. I just want a large (23') V-drive boat that has an acceptable waterski wake.

How can you possibly trim a fully inboard boat????? You cant raise the engine or the prop or anything right...?

It's like an elevator/flap/aileron on an airplane. By raising or lowering the tab (cavitation plate), which afixes to the transom, it for all practical purposes (and to a limited extent) changes the hull shape and creates lift (if down) in the rear pushing the nose forward. Supra has used them for years. My brother in law's 99 Supra comp has a very soft ski wake. Don't know how much is due to the cavitation plate though. In that application, I thought it was more to knock the rooster tail down though. What do I know.
