So if the government shuts down welfare checks will still be paid but the military will not receive their pay?

What kind of ridicules policy is this? Pay the people that don't work but not those that do? If air traffic controllers and postal works stay on the job and get paid then why not our military?

Postal Workers get to stay on the job because they aren't government funded. They make their own money so they get to work & get paid.

On the other hand not only do Welfare recipients get their checks, the Damn congress does too, and good on B.O. up there in the white house. If anyone should be without a paycheck it should be them.

It is no longer of a question of "if". My mid-month pay is less than half of what it is suppose to be. I went to the finance office. The clerk told me that the defense finance accounting service is only releasing pay from 1 April to 8 April. All other pay and allowances will not be released until at least the end of the month (provided that the politicians can agree on a budget in time).

This is armed forces wide! Everyone from the highest general to the lowest private is only getting paid for eight days of service in April. No more pay will be issued until at least the end of the month and that is optimistic.

Thank you Mr. President for your tireless efforts and your valiant support of the military! Now go f*#k yourself!

I can tell you that for the 6 years I was 1SG at Campbell there are many, many Soldiers who live pay check to pay check. For an E1 private making $1400 a month and trying to feed his family this is just devastating.

Or how about a newly enlisted Soldier who just got to basic training and the first thing you have tell them is "you're not getting paid and there is nothing I can do about it." But I just signed up to go to war and now you're not even going to pay me?

My son-in-law is a Specialist serving in Afghanistan. His mid month pay is $184. My youngest boy is in his second week of basic training in the Navy. He is going to get one heck of an inaguration into the service. I have an entire company of boys that need a lot more than eight days of pay to get through the month of April.

What a strange twist of irony. I recall working with both Iraqi and Afghan Soldiers that were not paid regularly. Who would have ever imagined that service members from the United States of America would go without pay - especially when serving combat tours!

I know that by the end of April there will be some kind of a budget. My boys and I will get our back pay. But it should never have come to this. It is absolute madness.

That's the deal, Bill.

If anyone should be getting paid in the USA by this government, it's the Military. If not for our military there wouldn't be a USA to call home.

It's just freaking BS that anyone of those so called leaders could even allow this to happen to them. I can only imagine what Soldiers and true leaders are going through right now. I'd have a stack of pre-signed AER applications on my desk right now and they'd all be for grants not loans.

I didn't hear the whole clip but yesterday, Jphn Boehner said Congress shouldn't be paid during this BS festival. I've also heard about a reform bill or petition that would remove the lifetime pension at full pay, they would be required to pay for their own health insurance (the same as everyone else), they would have a 12 year limit and it would apply if they were elected to both houses, so there's no 12 years in the Senate and another 12 in the House. They would have no ability to give themselves a pay or benefits raise and they wouldn't be immune to prosecution while in office.

That would be a good start. When they feel their party's victories are more important than the country's problems and needs, it's time for major changes.

We DO NOT need a military coup. What we need is people who care more about the country than their "impressive career and credentials". Screw 'em. We need to take this country back.

That's about .3% of the deficit. Hardly notable and far less than what's needed. They make a point of saying that the military won't get paid to side-track everyone and drag people around by their noses while they make back room deals that mean almost nothing. My pet peeve? Welfare paid out to "single moms" who keep spitting out kids. Unless the father is six feet under, he should be supporting his child, NOT the tax payers. I can't build a storage shed in my back yard without having to report it to the county and pay more taxes, but a man can keep knocking up women and not pay a dime in child support unless the mother takes him to court. Welfare is THEFT from the American worker to the non-worker.

Entitlements and Welfare should be cut in HALF. Get a JOB.

People need to stay in school first. If they're not able to read + write = communicate effectively, do basic to moderately advanced math and critical thinking/reasoning, they won't be qualified for most jobs. Our ever-increasing demand for more and cheaper goods, coupled with upward spiraling wages/union contracts, has caused manufacturers to go to other countries for labor and this is not going to come back to US shores unless the other countries refuse to continue producing goods for the US markets. If this happens, it's because the US has somehow completely PO'd the rest of the world to the point that they will avoid us altogether.

We don't export enough to support large numbers of manufacturing jobs and Americans won't work in a factory for minimum wage, even though lower wages is the only way US factories will even make a big comeback. We no longer have the edge on technology WRT consumer goods and now that the Cold War is over, we no longer need to keep advancing military technology at the same rate. In their efforts to cut the deficit, they have cut research even more and that stands to put us into the back seat if it continues.

If the government wants to be in everyone's life, they should at least try to help people achieve more, not just hand out money and food.

Personally, I think we (the US) should be so far ahead of the rest of the world that they'll never catch up. Unfortunately, some people disagree (spies and politicians who think it would be best if the battle field is more level) and that we should use satellites instead of people on the ground for intelligence. I had an uncle who worked on the missile recognition and tracking for the GM NATO vehicle and that could react amazingly fast to a projectile at near-orbital velocity in their test facility. That was back in the '70s, though. I know we have the capability to do so much more now and if people would stop selling our military secrets, we could stay ahead. Fighting against people using others as human shields and dressing like civilians is too effective to think our efforts are sustainable, though. We need to find a way yo draw them out into the open.

I don't mind paying people to be in Congress but I do have a huge problem with them being able to increase their own pay, give themselves better benefits and lifetime pension. They work for us and we should be able to set their pay, bennies and pension. If they don't like what we want to give, someone else will step in. Pelosi should never have been given that jet for her use but since she's in that club, it was doubtful that anyone would say NO. I also don't think Madam Obama should have such a large staff, either. He!!, even Hillary did more with less when she was First Lady.

I know (well I hope) that not all Government employees are only looking out for themselfs, but it trickles down to the local level as well. We've had two counties in VA get into budget problems this past year. Both of them were in the news for months trying to decide how to make up the shortage. Their main solution was to close down and condense a few schools. After all was said and done, they reported that they were indeed going to close two schools and.......(wait for it).........give county employees a raise. All I heard was everyone complaining about closing the schools, not a single complaint about taking the money and spending it on raises. These are the people who are voting the idiots back into office.

These are the people who are voting the idiots back into office.

I have said a million times and I will say it again........ The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.

No kidding...but that hasn't stopped the pentagon budget from ballooning year after year after year. The amount of money given to the military industrial complex is staggering, but unfortunately will never be reigned in.

If you are going to spend money, spend it on the military. At the onset of World War II the United States was so bent on isolationism that it was unbelievable. The military suffered the most becuase of out dated equipment and limited training resources. Fast forward to an era of Bush hating liberals are pushing their isolationist agenda on the military; they have already cost us the most advanced jet fighter on the planet and they are just getting started.

Our government wastes more money than they can print. Budget cuts are required. But if you take away from the military then we will all pay for it in kind at some point down the road. More money could be saved by dropping that illegal health care program than cutting projects from the military.

Fire everybody. Start fresh.
