Due to the size of my wallet (or lack of) I've been shopping around for a older MariStar when... My wife pulls some pics of TriStars with the funky seating (yeah, you know the ones). She is in love with this boat.
What's your $0.02???? (other than the V-Drive vs inboard)
I love the MariStar and know nothing about the TriStars other than they don't make them anymore. I assume there is a reason they stopped making them. I don't know what it is but the mere fact they stopped is enough for me to say "Sorry honey, we're getting a MariStar".

The V-drive and the straight drive (direct drive) are both "inboards," per say. I'm thinking you meant just that.... :)

I have A 88 Tristar 220 absolutly love it. The seating looks funky at first but is very useful. The boat has a capacity of 11 and we fill it up on a regular basis with all adults and it is not cramped at all.

190 or 220??? By funky seating do you mean the "walk around" model???

Ahhh... Our infamous Luau... Good times Mark P!!!
As for the boat - Yes, the walk around. I bought a 88 brochure off of Ebay for my current boat and there is was in full color. She went crazy over this thing. As far as size I haven't sctually looked at any for sale. She just saw it in the brochure. I'm cool with the funky seating I'm just wondering about build, power, handling, etc. We're not pro skiers (more like casual skiing, tube, etc.) so that's why I'm ditching the ProStar. Wife wants more room for kids, friends and what-not.

As a Tristar owner I will tell you that the ride is rough. Anyone sitting in the observer seat will take a beating. The wake is better behind the Tristar for slalom, and at 18-20 mph the wake for boarding is great. It is going to be a little wider than your prostar and if you garage, you have to take into account for the built in swim platform. If you are looking for a recreational boat go with the maristar.

The 220 walk around does not have an observer seat. It is a much bigger and wider boat than the 190. I don't have any real complaints about rough ride, There is also a 190 on my lake and he does say his is rough. I think the 220s size eats up chop better than the 190.

Not to offend anyone here, but that is one ugly boat, ugly color, and ugly interior... Take it from a former tristar owner, now with a Maristar... GET A MARISTAR.... Just my 02 cents....

Sometimes the truth hurts... I think I can say that because I grew up skiing behind a Ski Supreme that was a chocolate brown hull with creme interior and trim. ;)

I'm the kind of guy who likes the "off the wall", "out of the norm" stuff. The boat to me is like my sister's dog... Ugly but unique.

The MariStar boats are my favorite but there aren't a lot around here for sale older than two or three years old. At this point I'm looking to go bigger with the hopes of something only a few years old (or new) later down the road. The funds just are not there at the moment :o(
