Is there a way to install a manual switch for the trailer brakes? The empty trailer is so light that it shifts forward when decelerating and I guess activates the solenoid then the trailer begins to bounce. Ideas?

Some trailers have a hole where you can put a bolt or pin to stop the brake actuator from sliding. You may be able to drill a hole if there is not one there, just make sure you pick the right spot so the actuator doesn't slide.

You can wire a switch to the reverse lock out solenoid if you are some what handy with electrical and if your trailer is equipped with it.

What flipper said, or just put a pin through the hole in the trailer tongue. Will keep the surge brakes from activating and you don't need the assistance of trailer brakes if the trailer's empty anyway.
