Went to go check on my boat in my warehouse yesterday and found that the people that were re-tarring the roof had let tar leak down threw the roof vents. Just happen that my x-star was parked uncovered under the vent. The tar has burnt into a couple seats and side trim. Needless to say I was pissed. I'll be contacting the company to try to get a hold of there insurance that did the work. I'm getting ready for a fight with them. I would like to get the skins replaced with original MC skins. But my dealer said they have been discontinued because my x-star is an 03. Has anyone bought skins for a newer year for their boat and have you been able to get them from MC? My dealer said I can not buy newer skins from MC.

You can buy newer skins and would be better off buying newer skins, as the vinyl is better.

Get new skins for a 2005 X-2 and they will fit just fine.

'03 X-Star should be pickle-fork, no?

And wow... that sucks. Good luck dealing with the storage company and getting everything fixed up.

Stewvette:

There was a post not long ago, yet this week, of a guy who had an '02-'03 era boat and installed '11 interior. Looks sweet. Since yours is an insurance claim and your not at fault you should get todays replacment value.

Let this be a lesson to all of us go check your boats before you need them.

Depends on what part of the year it was. Late-03 is the new picklefork design,

from the avatar i'm pretty sure he has a pre-pickle-fork star.

+1 for the 2011 interior. My 05 X2 vinyl is almost perfect, but if i had to replace, would definitely go with the 2011 stuff in some crazy colors... because i could :)

If it was a 205V hull, will the 2011 X-1 skins fit?

It gets a little tricky, as the foam might be different. I also know for fact that the driver's seat is different.

The best thing to do would be to take the pattern for a 2004 or 2005 X-2 and have it done in the 2011 vinyl.

Not sure if this is even possible... I am just spit-balling.

Scratch that. stewvette has one of the few 03 X-star Pickleforks.

I'll keep you guys posted on how things go with the insurance and the roofing company.

Talk to your insurance company. Let them fight it out with the roofers insurance company.

^ Yep and it's too bad for whoever is going to pay that they don't make 2003 interior anymore, and even though not all of the interior is damaged. It all has to be replaced to match......2011 skins!!!!!!!

Just talked to the roofing company they seem to think they can clean the tar off. I told them that the vinyl is melted. He said he would see what he can do. Here we go this is going to be a nightmare. I might just turn it into my insurance and let my insurance company deal with them.

Bull$hite they can. Tar comes off vinyl as often as Maristar210 walks on water... they are going to have to pony up to replace. Simple as that.

i'd call your own insurance company for advice and stop wasting your time with the contractor. write EVERYTHING down, names, dates, etc. fixing the melts would essentially be a vinyl weld and is not what you want. you'll see it and you wont be happy.

Yes, call your insurance company. It's no wonder we have lawyers. Or better yet, tell the roofing company that you are going to call your lawyer, then call your insurance company. Free to talk to them (in a weird way.)

DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH THE BOAT!

It's not up to them to try and clean it. It's up to you to have it done by whoever you chose. The skin is melted through, it wont clean up. Let them look. You need to take a ton of photos. Take it to a shop and get an estimate on the repairs.

anybody know the approximate cost of a new set of 2011 xstar skins? Is it just the seats or the whole interior?

Stew, Sorry to hear about the loss. Great ideas here and I agree with most. If you cannot replace your interior identically as it was before the loss your boat will then sustain a substantial loss in value. I would talk to a few dealers and get statments in writing from them establishing the amount of value loss otherwise known as "diminished value" with a nonorigonal interior. I bet YOUR ins co will not help you out with this unpopular recovery attempt. You will most likely have to go direct to the contractors company. Dont let them get away !!!! In the automobile business it is not uncommon for customers to get checks for 500 to 5000 just because there car now has a damage history. THINK ABOUT IT ???

I second the attempt of a bunch of thug roofers to clean a MC. I can say that because I are one in my past life (college era). Make sure they dont step foot on your vessel, if they do be sure they take there boots off. By the way check the carpet real good because if this is melted in the seats I is stuck to your carpet too. If it was hot enough to melt the vinyl it may have discolored your gel coat. Get that thing in the sun and look her over real good.

Get your insurance involved and the building owners too. You only have two months to resolve this before your hitting the water.

I would involve my insurance company if it were me. Dealing directly with the roofing company or the warehouse owner, their only concern would be limiting their expense. You however want the boat returned to the condition it was in to start with. These are opposite goals!

I think the conciseness is pretty clear and I'd have to throw in with most everyone else. Call your insurance company and don't let the roofers attempt to clean the boat.File the claim now and let the insurance company handle it. That's what you pay them for. I've only filed one claim with Boat US (that would be for the time my wife backed into my boat while it was in the drive way) and have to say they did great job handling the claim. I took it to the shop of my choice and they paid the bill. The boat was fixed correctly and I got on with the summer. Life's too short to mess with this kind of thing unless you have to.
