Does anyone know if/where I could get my hands on some of the billet aluminum used on the instrument panel for an '03 model x30? I am replacing my stereo and understand the dimensions call for a backing plate/adapter.

Machine Shop?

A local stereo shop might also be able to make you one, out of aluminum, or ABS plastic.

Where is the billet piece you are referring to located? I understand the intrument panel, but which one? And are you refering to the brushed/spun aluminum panels? Or are you looking for just a flat stock piece of aluminum to use as a backing plate?

I need a flat piece to have cut to the right specs. Clarion makes an adapter plate, but I wanted to make it look a little more OE.

smsunman1,

I have a call into Clarion Marine to get the dimensions of the new adapter plate. I will post when I get the information from them. Sounds like you might know where I could get what I am looking for?

Clarion called me back. The adapter plate is anodized aluminum and measurements are 9 3/4 inches long, 4 1/2 inches tall, and 1/8 inch thick.

It this what you are looking for??

Ski Dim has them for about $25. It converts a double DIN opening to a single DIN opening.
