What is a Ski Brendella? I have been in boating for years and never heard of this mfg? Just noticed some postings today by accident. Was I not invited to a kickin' secret party or was it a party I probably wouldn't have wanted any part of?

when he sold the company, I believe it became Hydrodyne. You guys are going to make me do some research.

Brendel used to be with Ski Brendella. Sold out and started MB. Ski Brendella then became Calabria after the split. :twocents:

Thats how I remember it and some of the first Ski Brendella Comp's looked like they copied the 80-86 MC hull but the deck was different.

They are great to ski behind except for the spray. Around here most used ones have rotton strigers by now.

I can remember seeing Hydrodyne back in the early 80's. Not bashing them but I think Ski Brendella is one of the newcomer wannabe ski boats. There's a couple of them on our lake

What word? For years MB was using the 91--94 prostar mold if I recall correctly. Don't know about the rest of it, but it's hard to argue with that hull (except as George mentioned, for the spray).

OK I am now confused.
ski brendella was around in the 80's but is someone seeing some new models being made under the ski brendella name now?

ive owned both, a 91 brendella and a 00 mb sports. my brendella was so good to me i decided to buy an mb. both boats combined had less visits to the shop than my 04 mc 197. the brendella has a lot of wood though and i had to replace the floor boards after about 8 years . i did put over 1300 hrs on it and take it to spring break 3 times, my mb was all fiberglass no problems. the early brendella's were an 85 mc hull. the mb was its own design. my 04 skiis alot better than the mb but i still regret selling it .

Funny how all these stories get twisted & turned. What I heard is that Mike Brendel started the company back in the early 80s after having been a designer with another big manufacturer (guess who). He was considered to be one of the best at the time too. So he started Brendella & over time brought in 2 other co-owners. At some point they overthrew the company & ousted Mike B. So in retaliation he took them to court & took the name at which time it was renamed Calabria. Some time in there Mike B. started MB Sports. These days MB Sports is known to make some very high quality, and very heavy boats. They are the first to use a 2 speed trans. and have one of the heaviest ballast systems on the market. Their speaker covers & grill covers are all billet alluminum. The glass in the hull is known to some of the thickest on the market, hence the weight.
Calabria on the other hand, fka; Brendella, has chosen simplicity to take care of issues. ie; their engine cover jump seats or ballast system.
Both manufacturers do some of the most elaborate graphics in their gelcoat of all.

I have to agree with you there. Very Very nice wake, but spray started being a factor early on ( I believe in the >30 off range - but ICBW).

Wood was definitely an issue though.
